Hi, I want to buy a new TFT monitor. So what would be a better solution for me a wide-screen or a conventional one?

It is good if you can buy LCD monitor because it is more suitable for the eyes.

This rather depends on what you wish to use the computer for.
If you are simply goind to use the internet and office programs then a standard format screen is more than adequte, although if you are considering watching films and videos then a widescreen monitor could be worthwhile.

hmmm... Well according to what you said I should buy a standard one, but should I consider the growing widescreen standard, why are so much people buying the widescreen ones? What about the games, are games better to play on a widescreen monitor?

Damn, someone beat me to it.

I'll pick a game at random I've played on both: World of Warcraft. While it's perfectly playable on a normal monitor, widescreen gives you a lot more room for toolbars etc, making visibility of the actual game far, far better.

Depends what you use your PC for. If you're gonna be watching movies or playing games, widescreen for sure. If you're just using Word and browsing, why bother? :)

It depends on your usage if widescreen is suitable with you. If you're into spreadsheet editing, widescreen may be the thing for you. But if you just use the PC normally, just get the normal screen. After all, LCDs are great regardless of its size.

I prefer a TFT monitor, because it wont effect your eyes. if you use normal monitors for few minutes your eyes may painful. so i prefer because you face such problems less in TFT monitor

As said above, if you are not into DVD films or games then a 4:3 normal screen would be fine.

I really think it started as a sales pitch because 19"WS were cheaper than a 19" regular TFT because there are less pixels on a wide screen (1440 x 900 against 1280 x 1040) but a 19" monitor sells to people who don't know as a 19" - wide screen or not!

I use a 20" WS and a 22" WS side by side with a double DVI outlet graphics card and that really helps spread out the work. Both are on the same native resolution of 1680 x 1050 and it is noticeable how much bigger the text is on the 22" monitor. The 22" cost a lot less than the 20" I bought a year earlier!

The price of TFT monitors has really dropped and there is not a lot of difference between a 22" (£132-£160) 20" (£115-£150) and a 19" (£105-£150) so personally I would go for a 22" so long as your graphics card is fairly new and can handle the resolution.

There is still quite a jump in price for 24"TFT (£250-£400) and I can't justify the price hike for an extra 2" diagonal and 1920 x 1200 resolution.
