When I had an operation and stayed in the hospital last week, other patients discussed what food should not eat after the surgery. Because it seems eating these food will cause the wound have an ugly scar. These foods include shrimps, crabs, egg, fish etc. It seems that I don't have more choices after that.

You still have a lot of choices. Not all fish must be avoided. Fish like salmon, snapper, "Sheng Yu" can still be eaten. Pork dishes can also still be eaten. AND oh... bean curd (or tofu)... don;t get me started on the various ways to cook it! You are not limited my friend. Just avoid a few foods for a while. Till you recover that is. No biggie.

Really? I guess it is a matter of different culture, different customs. Here, most times, people will buy Sheng Yu to cook for the person who underwent operation. Cos the high protein in the fish is suppose to help in the healing process. So, what kinda fish is recommended for recovery where you are from?

I think you will be surprised to hear that. In the hospital, other patients told me not to eat fish at all. They said the scar would grow ugly after that.

That's very interesting. Here "sheng yu" is forbidden to eat after the surgery because it seems it's harmful for the scar.

Wow. I didn't not know anything about that. I know sometimes they want you to eat light after surgery depending on the type but I didn't know anything about the scarring. I've been fortunate in that I've never had any major surgery. Hope you are doing well now.

Hi youless, I am not sure about that but I guess it is best to consult your doctor anyway we have also different creams for the scars so, I don't think it is a big problem if you will eat it, maybe just lessen the intake!

Some people would also say not to eat food with a lot of presevatives... like hotdog... and even chicken... i have never undergone a surgery in my life... but if that ever happens... i will surely follow the doctor's instructions... and eat only the food that he advises me too... then just indulge with the rest when i am all better...

O~~` i have no idea of about the foods that you are discussing here as i am a veggie. But, generally the food that we should take after the operation must be an easily digestible one..more fruits that.. should not induce any kind of acidity.. Have a good time and please do take care of your health friend.

I am surprised to hear that you are a veggie. In fact it's a very healthy habit and you won't make any mistakes to eat them
