There are still railways here but trains are not very popular any more. When you hear a train it is a very refreshing feeling. My fiance and I both live in the country (open fields and air) and yet we still do not hear it very often.

It does perplex me. I travel by train often and it is always some passenger have no seat. There is also a great population in the United State and they travel often, can cars and planes meet their needs?

Cars, planes and buses meet our needs. Like I stated above, we live in the country where there are pletiful fields and open air. No buses roam this way as we do not need them. For the city, people use buses, their own cars or cabs. Trains aren't needed and are usually for longer journeys at any rate.

Yes, there are railways. There are two main ones that I know of. They are Amtrak and Union Pacific.
According to the US Bureau of Transportation, in 2005 American travelled about 6 million million kilometers by car, and about 46 thousand million kilometers by rail. That means that Americans travel about 0.8% as much by rail as they do by car. The love affair with the automoblie is big. This is entirely the fault of the private citizen. The government has not given much money toward developing a reliable and efficient US rail system. If they were to do this, and promote it more, people may start choosing it, especially with the price of oil going higher.

It maybe reflect a life style prefer of people in America. I still remember seeing a cartoon on TV when i was a child, a train stopped by wild ox in west America. I reckon it happened a century ago.

We don't have the super fast trains here that they have in Asia and Europe. We have Amtrak which is just slightly faster than a bus. I like Amtrak too because I get to stay in my wheelchair, but most people are annoyed by Amtrak. However, I think ridership will increase because of gas prices. I hope this causes the government to spend more money on Amtrak.
