Do You Think The Packers Made A Bad Move By Trading Favre?  email this discussion to a friend?

The Packers said there reason for not wanting Favre back was to move forward. Also with the emotional press conference that probably had something to do with them moving forward. However many have said Favre had his best season last year. Hes now going to play for the New York Jets.

I don't know if they've made a bad move so to speak or a good move. It was bound to happen sooner or later. The only way to find out will be the regular season this year and see what happens from this point forward. I don't know if he'll duplicate the numbers from last season for sure. I guess my answer is I don't know and only time will tell.

At this point in time, I think Ted Thompson deserves the benefit of the doubt. He has built this team from 4-12 to 13-3 in only three years and has one of the youngest and most talented teams in the NFL. He had to know the ramifications of trading a legend like Favre and hitching his wagon to an unproven Aaron Rodgers, so he must have had his reasons. Either he hated Favre so much that he was willing to undermine his own team and his own job to get him out of Green Bay, or he was so sold on Rodgers as the quarterback of the future that he was willing to let a hall of fame player go for a fairly cheap price. The former statement doesn't make a lot of sense, since it will result in his firing. The second only makes sense if Rodgers has a decent year in 2008, and we won't know that for another 4 and a half months. If the Packers make the playoffs, it was a tremdous move, and if the Jets make the Super Bowl it could still be a good move since it would give the Packers a first round draft pick. Either way, I'm not ready to throw Thompson under the bus for this one . . . not yet anyway.

I understand the Packers wanting to move on... but they are going to have very very angry fans if Green Bay has a sub-par year, and especially if Favre excels with the Jets and they make the play-offs. I think in that circumstance they should have let Favre compete for the job... I know they didn't want that to happen, because ultimately he would have beat out Aaron Rogers, and they had already committed to him. NFL is a fan dominated sport, and I can see things getting pretty ugly in Green Bay this year, it's going to be interesting!!

Oh heavens no. Best thing they could have done. Best thing for Favre would have been to take the marketing deal they offered. But, once he was bound and determined to come back and play, the team had to get rid of him. He has always been a selfish player and this year proved it. He jerks them around right and left for four years about retiring. Finally, he does. EVERYONE moves on. Then, he changes his mind and the Packers are just supposed to welcome him back with open arms? Just supposed to kick aside the poor guy who did all the offseason workouts, was in traing camp, etc.? Not hardly. Let him go mess with some other team. First time he throws one of his stupid interceptions, the NY press will crucify him. Which will confuse and hurt his little feelings (I thought this was football not EST)since he is used to the adoring Green Bay press.

Bret needs someone in his life who does not have a stake in him continuing to play football to tell him he needs to stay retired. His wife won't. She likes the attention of being Mrs. Bret Favre (once he finally married her after a couple of kids). His agent won't. He wants his comission. He has no one in his life looking out for Bret's best interests instead of their own. Which is kinda sad. But, Bret put himself in this positon and how has to live with it.

yeah they did. farve is one of the better qbs in the league, not to mention a hall of fame qb. they said they wanted to move on... but i dont agree with that. i mean look at it this way. you have a football team. you also have a choice of your qb: brett farve or aaron rodgers. i mean... who are you gonna choose? brett farve! thats a no brainer right? but of course its not that simple...

I guess they got tired of him pondering about retirement. Hes got to be somewhat done in to be so emotional at a press conference saying hes going to retire. Footballs in his blood though and thats why he keeps coming back. He had great stats last season though and should do great this season. The only downside is hes with another team. Its like starting all over.
