So throughout the years on August 8th, these events have happened: 1588- English forces attacked the Spanish Armada, permanently crippling Spain's "invincible" fleet. 1815- Napoleon Bonaparte went to St. Helena to live the rest of his days in exile 1899- The refrigerator was patented by A.T. Marshall 1945- President Harry S. Truman signed the United Nations Charter, Also in 1945 The Soviet Union declared war against Japan in WWII 1968- Richard M. Nixon was nominated for president 1969- Sharon Tate, wife of director Roman Polanski, and four others were murdered by members of Charles Manson's "family" 1974- President Richard Nixon announced he would resign after the uncovering of the Watergate Scandal 1978- The United States launched Pioneer Venus II, which carried scientific probes to study the atmosphere of Venus 1988- U.N. That was indeed a very sad time in history, and still is very sad. Radiation is still higher there, and people are still finding more cancer problems than the usual numbers.
