Two years ago, at one time in our house my husband just fell off the floor. I was shocked because that was the first time I saw him like that. He told me that it was his vertigo again. I didn't know he's got vertigo and I didn't know what to do. He just lied on the floor and kept his eyes closed because he felt very dizzy, as if his surrounding was spinning. He turned around and then after a minute, he was able to stand up but slowly. Later that evening, it came back again, so the next day, I accompanied him to the doctor, and there I knew from the doctor's interview that he had his last attack during college. It was his inner ear. The doctor gave him medicines and a copy of exercises for vertigo patients. I didn't really understand why vertigo happens.
I don't like to see my husband that way again. I just hope that his vertigo will not go back again.
Anyone of you suffering vertigo? What do you do when it's there?

That happened to me last year, actually it was Thanksgiving Day, we were on our way to my mothers house, and as I was walking to my front door, everything just started spinning, it felt wierd, I tried to hold onto the door but it seemed like I couldn't get a hold of it, and down I went to the floor, and I hit my head on the side of the chair, and I just layed there with my eyes closed, till it went away, that scared the heck out of me, I've gotten dizzy before a few times but not like that, it felt like it wasn't going to stop. My husband came running back in the house, to see what happened and he help me sit up, I was scared to move because I thought it might do it again, so I sit on the floor a little bit till I thought I was okay and could get up. After that, I still felt a little dizzy, everytime I got up from sitting, or when I moved my head it would feel swimmey. I think I felt like that for a couple months, I couldn't stand too long or walk very far without having to sit for a minute. I went to the doctor because I thought it was an inner ear infection or something, they didn't find anything, I even had to get a CT Scan to see if anything was going on in my head. What it all came down to was motion sickness, yep the doctor told me I had motion sickness, I couldn't believe it, I always thought it was something you got from being on a boat or airplane or car ride, he told me to take Meclizine and it should help, he said it would take awhile to go away but as long as I took the medicine, it would. So it took me about 2 mos. to get rid of it. Every once in awhile I'll feel a little swimmy headed, and I'll take the medicine for a few days and it goes away. But for me, the meclizine worked, I don't know if its the same if you have an inner ear infection. Have a good day..

I have suffered from vertigo for about five years now. It comes and goes. I had about every type of test done to see what it could be. There is a possiblity it is a form of Menieres but not likely. I suffer from allergies and most recently was told it may just be a result of chronic sinutitis caused by these allergies. At any rate I tried different meds like antivert and meclizine that did not work. Finally my doctor said sometimes valium helps so I tried, it seems to tone it down when it is bad. My main problem is driving as when I go to turn my head it gets horrible. There are times when I go a month without having much of a problem with it and other times it is chronic and very bad to the point of falling like your husband did. It is difficult because there is no real diagnosis for my vertigo so I just take the valium when I really need it and deal with it best I can.
