This is one of my latest Carvings. I found this coffin shaped box years ago at a yard sale and have saved it hoping to come up with a good subjuct to carve on it. Finally I hit on the idea of a Cigar Store Indian. Sick sense of humor, but it certainly looks good on it. Now, I don't want to sell the carving, I like it so much!!! By the way the real feathers were glady contributed by my African Grey Parrot the last time she molted!! Shalom~Adoniah

You are an interesting person. I would love to speak other languages, and also to support myself with my creations! I have the same problem when I make a doll, or anything for that matter... I invariably love it too much to sell it. I have been thinking about carving wood lately, it's funny that I would come across this discussion right at the very time I have been thinking about it. I used to have an Amazon, but even though I still miss him after all these years, I am very glad not to have to clean up after him anymore. Gawd, he made some incredible messes! What a great find that box was! Although, being a smoker - with absolutely no intentions to give it up - I can't say that I appreciate the humor of your carving very much! Nor can I make too much detail out, although it looks like some painstaking labor went into it, and I love the colorful contribution that 'the Babylonian Goddess of the Ocean' made! Great name! Hehehe, I used to have a friend who called me Babylon.

If you wish to try carving, get yourself a large bar of cheap soap and an exato blade knife and whittle away. No investment, lots of fun and if it does not work out you can still use what is left of the soap.lol. Iam actually serious. This is how I teach youg people. There is a little less danger in them hurting themselves and their parents don't have to put out a lot of money if they lose interest. You would be surprised how many succeed and go onto doing nice pieces in real wood. I am always proud of my students!!! Give it a go! Shalom

Great carving. I bet you are proud of your work. I wish I had a talent like that. and your African Grey Parrot sounds fantastic. You are truly Blessed. Have a great day. I can only speak one language and your bird speaks several. How great is that?

That is pretty cool. It looks like it took quite a while to do, what with all the detail and stuff. Great job!! Hey, I know what ya mean by wanting to keep it. I have done things like that too - to give away or sell, then later decided to keep it because I really liked it!

You have a great talent, Adoniah! I cannot blame you for not wanting to part with this beautiful carving. If you should decide to, however, you should demand a high price for it.

Hi World, I have been carving for 19 years. I used to support my family with it when my now exhusband was having back surgeries and I couldn't leave him. I have some work in a museum in France and Germany thanks to some sailing friends over there that also liked my work. They took them back on their sailboats. I used to do large stuff. Shalom~Adoniah

Why carve it on a coffin? You could have got a plank and carved it on it so that it could have been displayed on a wall.

I thought the two went especially well together. So I have a perverse sense of humor. Every single person who has seen it has tried to talk me out of it and several have even offered me substantial sums of money for it. I am just not ready to sell it yet. I will though. shalom
