Hi,
My daughter wants to give her friends friendship bracelets. I only know how to make one kind and that is the strips. She wants to create some with her friends names on them or initials. Does anyone know where I could find new patterns or basic instructions? I would love to hear from you.
Thanks,

The friendship bracelets are just knots with embrodery silk. I hadn't thought of beads but that adds a new dimension to the bracelet. Thanks for the idea.

They are quite easy to do.
You start with a plastic strip. The kind that news shops have to bind newspapers or are used to seal boxes. Lay out about 8 strands of string lengthwise. The number depends on how wide the plastic is. Make it longer than the plastic strip. Then you start raping over the plastic and the string with a contrasting color. To make the letters you lift up some of the strands of string then wrap once then lift up others and keep going until the letter is made. It takes practice and experimentation's to learn which strands to lift to make each letter. To end it you use a math and melt a bit of the plastic into the floss. Then braid the ends and tie on friends wrist.

Beading takes a lot of time. Those beads are TINY. It might be better if she got those letter beads and just strung the letters for the initials on the threads you will use to make the bracelet. Then make the bracelet the way you know how.

Of course there is the internet. Also try the library for free books you can borrow on beading/ craft/ jewellery, there are also many beading magazines available now in the newsagents and your library may stock some.
In Australia we have many beading shops and companies that have party plans that will show you how to make things and sell you the items you need. Many beading shops wil also help you make something up, or show you how to do it.
I have also found the discount type stores often have little jewellery kits such as beads with the alphabet and some cord, which sounds like it could be what you need. These are often a $2 - $3 a packet - you could mix and match a couple of these.
If you get memory wire, it is pretty easy to make into a single round bracelet and string with beads in a pattern you like. You just need to curl the ends up to stop the beads falling off. Memory wire is the coiling sort of wire, you can also make a few rings of the wire and this can double up as a bracelet or a hanging decoration.

Well, I dont know what kind of bracelets you are making. But I use colorful strings and just cris-cross it. then for the names/initials, I bought letter beads. I insert to the strings, so it becomes a part of the whole bracelet. try looking for letter beads in craft store.
