Here in the USA we frown upon the idea of arranged marriages. We think that it's so horrible to not be able to choose your own mate... but isn't that kind of what online dating services are preventing us from doing? Instead of a loving family member choosing, though, a computer matches people based on "X dimensions of compatibility"... what's your take on it?

I would be too worried that the person I chose was not truthful about himself. How many people tell the truth. I would like to think that people are truthful about who they are, but too often you hear stories about how people meet and the person is the opposite of who he said he was. But, the same can be true for meeting a person on the fly. How do you really know anyone tells the truth? I have a cousin who is a habitual lier. He lies about everything. He has had 2 marriages so far, and has I belive about 5 kids in total between the marriages and the woman he has had relationships he has had. I remember one of his women telling me a story about my cousin, it was totally bogus. Be aware and don't be fooled is my only advice.

Yeah, I'm definitely not meeting anyone online to have a relationship with. I have to admit that I tried that once when I was 17 and stupid, and it turned out to be a disaster. Learned my lesson!

No, you don't understand me... it would take more than that little tidbit of a story for you to "get" me... nice try though, Mr. Psychology!

No, I don't think on-line dating services are preventing us from choosing our mates. The purpose of those sites is to provide exposure to people one might otherwise never have the opportunity to meet. In other words, they broaden and enhance the pool of people from which one may select a potential mate provided there are honest answers from the respondents.
