It's funny really when you consider how afraid of everything people have become! Yes there were many things around us in the past that we now know could be harmful; yet we were all blissfully oblivious and lived happily! There is always something new that becomes bad for us or dangerous to us and we seem to have to live our lives constantly in fear of things from mobile phones to eggs! lol.

you are so right & what good memories u brought to my mind. kids nowadays have to be entertained w/somr kind of expensive games, don't know what it is to get out & make mud pies [i've made a many], catch lightening bugs at night after supper, make clover chains & let cars run through them.we had a big ol' tine & we were safe. we thought nothing about walking up town to the show. it's sad that pople have gotten so darn mean u are afraid to let them out of the house. my sons are grown but now i have the grandchildren to worry about. you have a good weekend.

Life was so less complicated, simple, loved and true. We had hardships, unrealised dreams and heartbreaks as well but we had the strength and simplicity to face it all. We were much simpler and healthier. With so much of hatred, animosity, violence and unhealthy competition we are living on the edge! Mayka, I feel this is not living at all. We are preparing to live all through..

Yes, you have given a very true picture. In the past so many material things, which are now available, were missing, yet we kept enjoying our life. Technology has made our life faster but on the other hand, it has robbed us of many little pleasure of our life. People were more social in olden days, now they are becoming self-centred. Real friends do not have time to interact, therefore, we keep finding on-line friends, for sharing our joys and sorrows. It is becoming a real materialistic world, where emotions are dying down gradually.

Mayka, that describes my childhood almost perfectly! These days, we are so governed by petty, ridiculous rules! I remember our local park had a high slippery dip (with a patch of hard dirt at the bottom!), and a maypole, from which there were many falls and grazed limbs! None of those poncey rubbery mats sunk into the ground, or pits full of sawdust so we wouldn't get hurt! All kids were covered in scabs and bruises - and nobody suspected a parent had abused them and reported it to DoCS. Kids were also allowed to be disappointed - school reports ranked us from 1-30 in each subject, so you knew where you stood and your parents could see what you needed help with. These days, every child wins a prize and nobody loses. There is no preparation for the big bad world and the fact you are going to have disappointments and be hurt and let down. I love remembering the good old days - and wish I'd been able to bring up my children the same way. Sadly, I could not.

Its really nice. may be i was not born at that time. but its true. now we have become so myuch dependent on artificial things in life. we no longer get happiness in the things that are natural and easy. its really good those simple life was.

thank you for sharing this one...i had read something similar about us kids from the 80s and yeah makes me feel like kids today are missing out on the real important and cool things...it's like they are adults already...thanks again for sharing

What a breath of fresh air! Great discussion to remind us how "luckly we were" to have survived! I remember those times, walking home from school alone, without feeling threatened, playing with neighborhood kids inside their houses not at all worried that they could be child molesters, getting bit by the neighorbor's dog and NOT suing. When we were thirsty we would go to the nearest water hose and everyone would gulp it down. So many fond memories. Thanks for the recollection!

thanks for the very nice post that reminds us again of the good old days... yes, i totally agree with you that during those times, live is much more simpler and we have a closer relationship with one another... nowadays, we are more individualistics and don't care about one another anymore... also, we can't trust people anymore and never feel safe when we go out alone with all the crimes happening out there... how i wish we can go back to those good old days... take care and have a nice day...

i wish i could argue with u, but u said every thing right. I was like that too. we were not going to tution
we were only having one TV channel at that start from 5 pm to 11 pm. but sure physical games were there
and indoor we used to have Carem, Chess, Darught, Monoply, Risk, Scrabbles, Cluedo and many orther, Father used to pla carem with us

Well well, thanks for reminding old days.
while hostel, we were having one jug and all six of us use that to drink water. thinks like that

i think this weekend i will be reminding those good days and read old college magazines
