| | Although its nice to get a gift, at one babies are more interested in the ribbons, bows and wrappings anyway. I want to take all the money given to my son and start a bank account just for him. | | | | | | |

| | If you are lazy and you don't care then give the money. That is what they will think of you. And it will be the truth. If you really cared you would go out and buy a gift. | | | | | | |

| | Yes the baby will love money if it's a note (bill) and you let it suck it in his/her mouth to taste it, and tear it up because it likes tearing things up, otherwise it'll be absolutely meaningless to it. The parents will keep the money but whose birthday is it? Perhaps they'll buy it something with the money but that should've been your job! lol There's no way to wriggle out of this really because it seems everyone else agrees. | | | | | | |

| | I think it's ok to give money as a gift to the 1-year old kid. The money could be used by the parents to buy whatever the kid needs. I don't think the kid would mind at all as he doesn't even know yet the value of gifts. If the kid was a older, giving toys or something he needs is better than just giving some money. As kids gets more excited opening gifts and actually can play or use the gifts. | | | | | | |

| | Probably you had already bought him a gift or gifted him some cash. Anyway, personally I think gifts to be better in here as if you give 1 yr.old kids cash, they won't firstly understand what to do with those and if they do(like those brainy geniuses in the movie "Baby Geniuses") they won't get their hands on it anyway 'cause there are their parents to take care of all the cash they get. So, to make them happy give them something they generally can understand like some toys, candies or whatever interests them (I was a kid long way back, so forgot what may interest them as much). Happy Mylotting! | | | | | | |

| | I'm chinese and in our way of giving gifts to parties are in the form of ampaw.. I'm sure you're familiar with that.. its either cash or a gift check sealed in a red envelope with a chinese good luck character etched on it.. regardless of what age is the celebrant may be or whatever occasion it is, its really ok to give an ampaw. You don't have to follow it that way but if you want to give money instead maybe sealed it inside a red envelope, not necessarily with the ones that has a chinese good luck character, even just a simple plain red envelope that you can DIY from colored papers.. or if you have time to go to the mall, buy a gift certificate instead from the department or grocery store or from any toy stores.. its cute and unique to put it that way.. | | | | | | |

| | I think if the child is a relative, there is nothing wrong with giving money. The parents can put it into a savings account for education, or for a larger purchase like when the kid outgrows his current bed. | | | | | | |

| | It would probably be best to get him a gift... but i suppose it's up to you... What do you think the parents of the child would prefer, as the child will probably not mind at that age either way. | | | |
