I love hiking to Glastonbury Tor! email this discussion to a friend?

Not sure that this could really be classified as serious hiking. Guess it must be at least 2 miles (approximately 3 kilometres).

Well, I woke up today after having quite a lie-in (Sunday is still a day of rest for many people in the UK, though they may not necessarily go to church)! Decided I needed to browse for some ideas for courses to take in healing, plus needed a bit of exercise.

Glastonbury is ideal for both. Drove to Glasto, found somewhere to park. Looked around the town centre to start; had a soya latte (coffee made mostly with soya milk), looked in YinYang a favourite crystal shop of mine, looked in at the assembly rooms - there seemed to be a Hari Kristna thing going on there, so stopped awhile to take this in. Had hoped their cafe would be open at their rather good with their vegan food and especially the Indian style tea or "chai" with soya milk! Also stopped at the Speaking Tree (bookshop) and the Wholefood Store.

Eventually made my way up the High street toward Shekinashram and up through the hills along the footpath toward the Tor with it's little disused church on top.

Everything is very green in England at the moment, with the lack of sunshine and the verdant greenness of everything it just doesn't seem like August or the summer! As I got closer and climbed higher towards the Tor, the wind picked up and it drizzled a little with rain.

Reached the top and as always, it is lovely to take in the 360 degree views. In one direction I could remember seeing the lights and tent covered fields when the world famous Glastonbury festival was on. At times the wind brought some of the sounds towards the Tor too!

Walked back down the other way, past the Chalice Well gardens. Refilled my water bottle with some mineral enriched water from the gardens which spout from one of its walls.

Always a good exercise...

Do you have a favourite hike... long or short? Is it one that can be combined with other activities?

I really love to go hiking in the countryside and along coastal paths. I have been to Glastonbury lots of times and have been up the Tor a few times. I like the stunning view from the top of it over all the patchwork fields. Yes, the countryside is delightfully green, the air smells fresh but there is a lack of sunshine quite sadly. It is more like October than August at the moment. I love a bookshop in Glastonbury and can get carried away buying superb books. I enjoy looking in all the wonderful crystal shops. I have had some relaxing times in Chalice Well Gardens. It was so cold to dip my feet in the pond. I found drinking the iron rich water to be a healthy activity. My favorite hike is Brean Head a walk in countryside with sea both sides. There are wild goats, pretty bluebells in May and an old fort at the end. It is between Weston Super Mare and Burnham On Sea.

Now and again, learn something new about myLot. Have just looked at the "unresolved discussions" tab for the first time, and this is one of about a dozen, that I need to resolve. It deserves a best response marking, so here you are!
