Debt Question

I am currently paying off my credit cards. I will be done in early November. After that I still have things like cable companies, cell phone companies and utilities to pay off. If I don't pay them off is it still true that after seven years they can't come after me anymore and it gets taken off my credit report? I knew that was the case a long time ago but I thought that it had recently changed. thanks.

As far as I know a bad mark can only stay on your credit report for seven years but I'm not sure what the statute of limitations for civil actions are. I do know that a phone company is still harassing my husband once in awhile over a phone bill for a bunch of 900 calls that he didn't make and that happened over 7 years ago.
