I need a really good recipie for chocolate icing. It should be suitable to put between the layers of a cake as well as frost the top. It's my son's birthday Sunday. I would like to make a nice homemade icing to go with my cake. Thanks in advance guys. It should be fairly simple also.

when I make icing for cake tops I use icing sugar ,cocoa sifted then add a little butter for the shin then small amounts of water till you get the thickness you want. I have not used this in layers but what about making whipped chocolate cream it will go for both layers and topping and can be piped to make it look nice and even pipe childs name and age ,

I don't really bake much and when I do i just use icing out of a can. Try RLFinNash. She has tons of discussions under the cooking section. She bakes cakes and sells them so I'm sure she would have a good recipe for you. I've made icing from scratch a few times, I just got the recipe out of my trusty betty crocker cook book.
