Hi rkrish! Welcome to The Reading Club! Its nice to know that you want to take up reading as a habit. I am a bit of a reader too. I go for fiction mostly, but I also like biographies. Well, I think you have to find out which kind of topics or subjects interest you a lot so you may choose books on those subjects. There are varied subjects under fiction and non-fiction - suspense, mysteries, adventure, love stories, classical literature, biographies, autobiographies, how-to-books, and lots of others! If you haven't really decided yet, for starters you can try the bestsellers the bookstore in your place may offer. I suggest you spend some good time in the bookstore so you can go over titles, and their reviews. So there you are! I hope you get what you want! Good luck!

Like others have said, try to find books that interest you. I'd go beyond just choosing between fiction and non fiction. Good books can be found in both categories. Just think of the types of things that interest you and try to find books on those. Libraries are good places for that if you want some help.
Also, this is a big issue with me that comes up every time the subject of reading comes up. Don't make it a chore. Don't pick stuff because you "should" read it. Pick books (or magazines or comic books -yes, they count, too) based on "will I like it?". Don't go into reading like it's a school assignment. Go into it like it's a fun activity.

Well, first you have to decide what kind of books are you interested in? Are you interested in fiction, that is, books with stories? Are you interested in learning facts? Are you interested in reading about real people and their lives? Are you interested in reading books to improve yourself?
The variety of reading materials is vast, and you are not limited to one kind. I would propose maybe getting a library card, and start exploring your choices. As a reader who can't seem to find enough time to read, I wish you luck in finding your reading niche. Don't be afraid to experiment and explore...

making an effort is always half the battle won. I will give you a very interesting tip to make reading enjoyable. Always visualize the story as you read it. I mean if the author is describing about a character then visualize him/her. It really helps build interest in the story.
Start with reading short stories...don't do for long novels in the beginning. Choose a book considering your preference and not anyone else. I mean read what you would like to read; romantic, fiction, murder, occult, mysteries, etc..
I hope my response has been helpful to you.

Well, welcome rkrish to our little reading club! All of us have been through that stage, and it had been very hard choosing where to start- especially when you have the love for all varities of books. Beginners in reading should go first with the not-so-long books, as to not make them bored of the book they're reading. I can't suggest some books for you to read because you haven't given us your favorite category of books you would want to read, but for starters like you, I recommend reading 'Artemis Fowl'. It's a science-fiction, adventure and some kinda friendship. The books are fairly very short and not that boring to read. But it's very hard to keep up with the story because of the oh-so-technical words that are in the book. But still, if you're a fun of science-fiction, I bet you'll love this! Oh, and did I mention that it's a book series? Have fun reading!

I was ab book worm when I was a kid and a teenager, but I don't have much time to read after being a teacher. I just read the books that related to my field now. Anyway I read from the internet too, and I the internet give me more knowledge and fun in these days... You cannot ask people what kind of books you should read, you must decide it by yourself. What do you want to read? You should ask yourself. For me I like to read books that related to our life, and the books about religions is my favorite, why don't you read it with your 'open heart'...
