Do you think Alicia Sacromone made the right choice?

I learned yesterday that Alicia Sacromone gave up her gymnastics scholarship at Brown to turn professional. I don't think this was a smart decision. Brown is not a cheap school and she was going for free. From what I understand in the interview, she's not even going to pursue gymnastics seriously after the Olympics so what is she gaining by giving up her scholarship? If she wanted to write a book about her experiences or go around inspiring young people (which her story should) she could do that without putting her eligibility in jeopardy. If she wanted to coach, she could also do that without giving up her eligibility. I don't understand. What has she gained by doing this? Any ideas?

It's everyone's right to choose what is best for them and she probably had some good reasons... I can't really find one - maybe the money? If you say she's turning professional she might have more to gain than from gymnastics...

I agree. We can't know her reasons, but still giving up a 40 K scholarship. I don't know. I wouldn't be happy if she were my kid, but I imagine that she explained herself more to her parents than the public.

Maybe she signed a deal that will make her more money than the scholarship is worth. Can't really think of any other reason.
