Ok, maybe that's too strong a word..but he is... LOL...Of course, I could think of other names but that's a whole nother story. Anyway, after ten years of divorce, I find out that he never took my name off of our house! According to our divorce decree, he was supposed to get a quit claim deed but obviously he never did cause I never signed it. Sooooo I'm thinking that the house still belongs to me, in part. I'm gonna talk to a lawyer friend of mine and see if that's the case. I'm not going to mention it to him just yet. What do you think I should do? Do you think I should sell my part or just let sleeping dogs lie for a while? I do have a son living there at the moment and don't want to disrupt his life. (he's 27). I've suspected this all along but I got on the internet today and looked up the property and it is still listed in both our names.

Did your ex-husband get the house in the divorce? Is it listed on your divorce papers? If it is, then I think it would be his, whether he took your name off or not. Now, it might present a problem, if something happened to him. Another thing, if you are still listed on the property, it would probably mean you could be sued for back taxes if he fails to pay them. Lots of things to check into.

Yes..he got the house but he agreed to make all the payments and pay all the taxes and everything and so far, he has. I just thought it was funny that after all these years it's still in my name. I will cross those bridges when I get there, I guess, if anything would happen to him. Thanks for the advice. happy

It does seem strange, though, that he never removed your name from the house. Maybe he's just never thought about it. Perhaps you do own part of it, if your name is still on the loan.

Hey there Wyldrose

Well, most ex's are idiot's that's why they are ex's!! lol.

Do you think you got your fair share when you got divorced? If you don't feel that you did then I would claim half of the house, your son can live in your half lol. If you feel you got a good deal when you divorced and have an amicable relationship with your ex then I would leave it.

Good luck with your decision!! thumbup

LOL...I agree.. they are!! I really don't think I got my fair share but at the time, my kids were still living there and I didn't want to disrupt their lives anymore than they already were. He is one of those types that thinks he knows it all..literally! He was actually telling me what I could and could not do (legal wise) after we separated and when I told my lawyer she said he was full of it.. lol I only talk to him when I absolutely have to and that is very seldom and I'm quite happy with that. happy

Well your son is 27,time to live on his own...And if it were me, I would see a lawyer about the sale of helf the house. BUT if your divorce decree says it's not yours, its probably not yours..But I wwould check with a lawyer first...Lori

My son is on his own. He pays his own bills, buys his own food...he's just staying there temporarily while he finishes up college. It's just cheaper on him. When he finishes, he's getting married so he is trying to save up too while he and his fiancee look for their own house. I'm going to talk to my lawyer friend about the house. I'm in no hurry to do anything really. I just thought it was funny that my ex thinks he's so smart. LOL It's just one of the many things he's tried to pull over my eyes over the years and during our divorce. I was supposed to be the stupid, no brained wife while he ran the show. He was very dominating and thought he knew it all. Boy, do I have some stories to tell over that one!! LOL..Anyway, have a great day happy

I think you should let the sleeping dog lie for sometime until your son moves out or after he gets his own house or family then you make a move. or even talk to your son since now he is a grown up who can understand your motives, if he feels comfortable then sell your part. heheheeeeee come to think of it.....he is indeed an idiot in a way! Gosh or he knows what he is doing for example maybe he is waiting for your son to have his own house then he starts processing and changing names? Do alot of thinking and searching before you take a step.

LOL...thanks for giving me a laugh. Waiting till my son leaves so he can start changing names is beyond his mental capability!! LOL But a good thought.. happy

I would speak to a lawyer and make sure what the legal and financial ramifications are for you. If your ex owes money on the house or has taken a loan out against it etc you could possibly be held liable so I would definitely speak to a lawyer and figure out whether to speak to him and what to say after you know what the complications could be for you! xxx
