What kind of a dog would you get?  

I dont know Louise.I have had a beagle,a collie & curently a Jack Russell.
Beagle was what my parents bought,the collie & JR came to us by chance,Collie from the dog pound,she walked towards us with her bowl in here mouth with that sad look..awww..we could resist.JR we got from one of my daughters school friends.
Her JK had puppies & they gave them away but one had been mistreated,left outside a lot,so they took her back.My daughter was asked if she wanted her,asked me & i said yes.We have had her for about a year now i beleive & she just will be two next March/April.She can be a bit frisky at times but does not yap half as much as what people make out JR do.Her name is Della.The Collie was called Luckie & Beagle was Benji.
Dont choose you will just know when you see him/her,ya know

I'm not too much for small dogs. Too hyperactive and yappy for me. Mostly we've had mutts, medium sized dogs, chow and shepherd mixes, Australian shepherd mixes, they've all been pretty good dogs.

This is hard to say, there are just too many, do you like small, medium or large dogs? I love so many different dogs unfortunately my apartment building doesn't allow any pets.

well right now i am living with my parents and they have tree cats so a dog is out of the question because there would be too many animals but maybe when i move out i will get a dog i would want to get one of those really little ones that are white and fluffy and stay small but i do not know what they are called but i know that that is the kind of dog that i would like to get.

that is a hard decision to make trying to decide what kind of a dog to purchase. ellie is also looking to purchase a dog for a pet. that depends on alot of different things what kind of a dog that you should consider getting. like is the dog going to be an inside dog?, or an outside dog? or do you want a small dog?, or a big dog? lol you know? our dogs name is Doughnut and she is a stray and she has been the best dog that anybody could possibly want to own. she was solid black until she started to get her grey hairs. lol happens to the best of us, doesn't it? lol if you do decide what kind of a dog that you are going to purchase or do purchase a dog, take a photograph of him/her and let us all around here at Mylot see what he/she looks like! good luck to you in finding the correct dog for you-all to enjoy. Doughnut gives hugs when she sees somebody laying down. lol she is a total mess.

I currently have 2 labs. Now, when I think about having a pet, I want an intelligent one and a friendly one. Labs are used extensively as guide dogs and why would that be - because of their intelligence level and disposition.

Of course, the variety of personalities of these dogs is something to consider - we have a yellow one who is just a bit goofy and we have a black one - he is the father to the yellow one, he is much more serious and cerebral. He figured out how to unlock his crate without us teaching him.

They are both loving and affectionate.

So I guess you can guess my recommendation.

i would get a miniature schnauzer. they are entertaining & easy to train. no shedding either. they do need to be groomed - you clip them yourself or have it done at the dog groomers for about $32 or so. that includes cleaning ears (their hair has to be plucked out of the ears), nails, bath & clipped. they fit well in a large backyard or in an apartment. mine (i've owned 3 so far in my life) have all gotten along well with my other pets - parrot, cats & other dogs, big and small. my current schnauzer is learning to leave the guinea pig alone. one schnauzer I had was a better mouser than the cat. you can go to dogsbreed website & check out traits to see what fits for you.

well I have never had a dog... But when I was young I almost got a collie... But if I could choose any dog to have of my own I would pick some kind of husky or retriever or something loyal and protective... And friendly

I now have a black lab pitt mix, she looks like a lab, but has the size of a small pitt, nice as can be, trained very well, heck she can even count! She does many commands. In 9 years, there has only been 5 people that has actually told me they see the pitt bull in her.
But, if something should ever happen to her, and I don't even want to think about that, for it would just devestate me. I would go for a much smaller dog, such as well, anything small and short hair. I love all kinds of dogs........heck I love all kinds of pets, I raised Rats, I now have mice and a snake for goodness sake lol. I am not picky.

I happen to like small dogs.. I have 4 .. I have 1 mini pin he's 10.. he never stops moving .. he's great with kids .. and is very loving.. I also have a mini pin chia mix.. another doll .. great with kids .. very loving.. my other two are full breed chia's .. the older one sparky.. is very protective .. a grouch.. nips at strangers when they come to the house.. my other chia is my sweetie my baby .. his name is rocky.. hes good with kids.. follows me every where .. taddles on everyone LOL ( he knows I will help him get his way ) if he's 5 lbs soaking wet that is alot LOL ..
