have you ever had a pen pal?

I had pen pals in Brazil, Australia, Germany, Austria, Finland, Turkey, I think that's it. I met the Austrian one in 1979 when I was in Germany. The Brazilian one found me on the internet back in the 90's. I have since lost his e-mail address unfortunately. But I remember we sent pictures, tape cassettes with our voices, money (which never got thru to Brazil lol) and lots of things. It was fun!

I remember having one from another country when I was in elementary school as well; I think they were from Brazil, i want to say. However, then I got one on my own. I used to read this scholastic magazine for school and they had an option for penpals. You filled out your information and sent it off to the magazine and they paired you with another kid. Well, I got a weirdo for a penpal . I was in 5th or 6th grade and so handwriting skills were already pretty well developed. Well the girl I was paired with was my age, a few months older maybe. Her handwriting was ATROCIOUS, she couldn't spell to save her life and she was clingy - THROUGH THE MAIL lol. If I didn't write back immediately, she'd write AGAIN in a huge huff about how I was ignoring her and why wasn't i writing back, blah blah... It was then that I decided to START ignoring her, LOL .

I like snail mail, personally. it feels more... intimate to me. my boyfriend and i talk on the phone all the time and chat on IM, but last year I sent him a handwritten letter on his birthday and he liked it:] i liked writing it. I wish the surge in snail mail would come back, but its so darn expensive these days for a STAMP!

i used to have a pen pal but one day i just stoped getting letter but i know that i moved a lot so there was a chance that it was my fault and the letter just got lost in the mail but i never bothered to try and wright back again i never really thought of it because i was young i did not understand how she would not have gotten it or anything like that i was too young to understand how mail worked.

Actually I have a pen pal story. My husband's cousin, East German, saw an Austrian girl was looking for a pen pal in a newspaper that had gotten smuggled in. They got in contact and ended up getting married. He was allowed to move to Austria (Austria was neutral) without a lot of hassle actually. Sadly the marriage did not survive.

I used to have pen pal when I'm in primary school. My pen pal is from my country but different town. However, we had lost contact for years and we didn't find ways to connect it back.
I still remember when we write to each other, we will always attach card or bookmarks with the letter. I spend most of my pocket $$ on cute and beautiful letters, bookmarks and cards. And yes, they're perfumed too.
Everytime i came back from school the first thing i do is rush to the mail box to search for my letters.

...had a bunch of 'em when I was in high school...Germany, England, New Zealand, India, Sweden, France, Canada, United States, South Korea. One is still a good friend after 30 years...

I had two pen pals. One was from Germany and the other from near Cleveland, OH. I had more contact with the one near Cleveland and I remember her name was Nancy from Middleburg Heights. I couldn't WAIT to get the mail, after I had sent a letter back. If I looked back in my things, perhaps I could find their names...I am a packrat!

I think I've had at least three, one from Australia or New Zealand (I can't remember now), one from the UK then another one from the US. I know she's from Sebastopol, CA and I wish I can still remember her name because Sebastopol is actually about 15 miles from where I live.

MAybe my ex gf should be considered as my one and only penpal^_^ I got to know her thru MIRc when i was just 16yrs old, and initially we were chatting online for most of the time, and slowly, she started to send me snail mails and we corresponded from there, even though we are in the same country.. lol

AFter 3-4 yrs, we became a couple and we still write to each other.. lol=D Till the day we broke up, we are still writing till one day, i din contact her anymore and the writing also stopped at that very moment..

Yes, I have. I was fond of writing letters since I was a kid. It was my way of keeping in touch with family and friends from afar. I have had pen pals from another country. They were my classmates for a little while. I have kept in touch with them since we parted. We were using the traditional letters back then, snail mail. Now, we still keep in touch but have been using more of the high-technology ways, such as email and messenger services.
