I was promoted as the new assistant operations manager of a japanese restaurant. At first I was very happy and excited too. but without knowing other pioneer employees are mad at me, I know they don't like me to have that position for they were ahead years before me. Things gone wrong as they don't follow what I say and just go on like I don't exist, and sometimes contradictions as well as insuburdination are what they shown me. I talked to my boss about that matter so what he did, he set-up a meeting with all the staff, there he strongly imposed that "MY VOICE WAS HIS VOICE TOO", and that they should follow me as they followed him. Although they are following me now I still heared employees are talking bad at my back. sometimes I want to end it in a resignation letter, but I realized its not that easy considiring the hardness of finding another job. What sould I do, do I have to be more patient and take every thing on myself, or I have to use my power even in the hard ways?

It happens to anyone. But dont mind them, find time talking with them and be friendly. In due time if they will know how your work is they will understand. Your days will come. Congratulations.

Last september 13, I invited them all to my 30th birthday celebration, they all come and we had a very nice conversation about anything under the sun. I try not to open a talk about our jobs. In work I don't act like a boss, still I work like before, entertaining our guest, serving and take orders. I never Change Its only them, as they address me as sir, they make it sound like they don't like that word. I know it will gonna make things right at the right time, I still need a bunch of patience it will work out soon. Thanks!

It seems to be a fact of life as a Manager, that once you get promoted above your former peers, things are never going to be the same between them and You..You can't remain friends like you may have been before, then switch hats and tell them what to do,or worse, discipline them..Sounds as though your promotion above longer serving staff has caused some resentment, and that's being expressed behind your back..Your boss must have had some good reasons to choose You over the longer serving people..so You can either prove him right and be a good Manager,or choose to make a fresh start someplace else, where the promotion on your resume may give you a head start..good luck with your choice!

I choose not to look for other place to start, if I can still take everything in my control then I will stay if not I go. But I agree to you that those longer serving staff will be very hard to handle if my boss will not help me to do so. And yes my promotion will realy give a great impact on my resume it will realy help a lot.
