Why is it that some people think myLot is only for them and their friends?

There was a discussion on here about a week or so ago. A lady was moaning about her partner big time. Mainly about how he wasn't ever with her, but round with his family. She appeared to be asking for suggestions, but wow, when I responded (in a diplomatic way) did she let rip at me. I was told to butt out, that she only wanted her friends to respond to her discussions (yeah, myLot is a public site you know).
Well I think this woman is beyond helping, if she can't even be civil to those who are trying to help her! Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Welcome to myLot. You have learned lesson number 1. Some people start a discussion asking for help or suggestions. however there intention is to get people to say "BOO HOO I'm SOOOO Sorry for you." Read how the responses start. They are seeking pity so I avoid them if I do not agree with them.
They will also ask open ended questions and attack you if you do not agree.
You will receive a star when you get to 100. It will suffer when you disagree with people. Some will attack you and give you a negative rating. If you care about your star rating avoid discussions when you do not agree with the person who started the discussion.

That's odd. I thought this site was to express your situations, issues and questions to get feedback from a variety of different people. If you wanted only your friends to reply then there's other ways to achieve that...like a telephone or email.
Why post your issues on a public site where a vast amount of people from all over the world are going to reply? That's beyond my understanding. Did you ask her any of this? That just seems so close-minded. But..to answer your question, no I haven't come across anything like that yet. I'd probably be too dumbfounded to even remark back.

Well, very little surprised me any more. I was interested though to see what others thought on myLot. We have have our contradictory elements in ourselves, though of course some make it more public than others. I did respond a few times, to this person, but have now given it up as "beyond help"! What the respondent has to say below, is very good too! Thank you for your comment!!
