I'm ready to do it. The thing is that every time i go for it, I just freeze. Writer's block? Can any one suggest a book on what to do to get over that part or do I just shake my way through it? DCMerkle

Your question was about books to help you unblock. There are a few of them out there that have prompts you can use to write with and perhaps come up with something good. "A Writer's Book of Days" by Judy Reeves has prompts for every day of the year, and then some. "A Writer's Book of Matches" is another prompt book. There are many more. You can do a search on Amazon or whatever bookstore site interests you, or check out the Writer's Digest website as they produce their own books and promote others. Also, there are creative writing prompt websites. You can get prompts online without shelling out the dough for a book. But the best place to get ideas is to just keep your ears and eyes open. The news, talk shows, listening to people talking in coffee shops, things that happen to friends... they can all be fodder for good stories. Good luck!

Start by writing the dialogue. Just keep writing. A story could evolve from there. When writing novel it is best to just write and write until you get the whole story out, then go back and revise. If you stop to revise you will never get it done. Just let the words come out and changes and ideas may come to you later.

patgalca, Thanks for the suggestions. I will look them up. I do keep a journal that I try to write in at least every night and I do jot down pieces of conversations that I have heard along the way. I even sometimes get pieces of dialog that will go around in my head and I'll write them down. I don't know where I would use them, but I guess that they will come in handy someday! DCMerkle

You said you're soooooooo ready and I kinda envy you because I wanna be ready as well in writing my book. But when you said everytime you go for it, you freeze, I think you're not ready yet as well. I'm sure I've read about books which can help future writers in every writing step but my apologies for not giving you a concrete answer here. Like you, I'm writing a book and I always say I'm not ready yet. You see, I've been contemplating about this book 2 years ago! I've written the prologue two years ago as well after deciding on the course of the story. But then for 2 years, I've rewritten and rewritten that prologue for 5 times already, it seems I'm not satisfied with my own writing. So now I'm about to finish the first chapter, but interruptions are always here. I do have a full-time job and there are other things on my mind as well. Gosh! I wonder when I'll have this book in print? Good luck to you anyways, hope you'll find that unwavering inspiration for you to go on writing and not freeze on some occasions.

maple_kiss, I've had a solid idea for a book for quite sometime. I've got it written in outline and a few plots for other ideas I have, but every time I go to try to start a chapter I just can't. Some one suggested that I had done such an extensive outline that I might feel like the book is done...lol I don't know, maybe their right, but I just want to finish it or start it depending on how I look at it. When writing the story, you don't have to start at the beginning. Start where your idea is and go back and move things around later. But make sure that where you start the story grabs the reader's attention so that they want to read more.
