Has anyone used one of those services where you send your scrap gold and get $$?

I was thinking about using one and wondered if they rip you off or not and which you used. I could take it to a pawn shop or something but we don't really have much here. So I saw an ad on tv and it seems there are several on the web. I have some old or broken stuff so I figure I might as well get paid for it but how do you know they are being fair? I tried taking a couple of rings to a jewelry store in another area we lived in and they told me it was out of date and they would just scrap it and I would have to come back sometime when they weren't busy. Needless to say I didn't feel important and never went back and took my business elsewhere (I had some repairs done there at the time).

I have used one of these services before. I can not say whether they were fair or not, but I do not think I got what I should have gotten for the stuff I sent. I think it was gold kit I used, really can not remember. I sent gold chains, my first engagement and wedding rings, my high school ring, gold earrings, and bracelets. They will send you a check right away, but I do not know what the true value of my items were. I guess I came out a winner, because these were things that I did not use anymore, but I think they could have been priced a little higher than they were. I do not think I will do it again though.

thanks for your opinion, I appreciate it. I still haven't decided and haven't really heard anyone rave about it.
