A Good One For Obama

I have to applaud Obama for one thing. Today after Sarah Palin made the announcement about her daughter's pregnancy, Obama came to her defense and said that this is not related to the election and kids should always be off limits to the press. On that, I could not agree more. This kid is going through a major crisis in her life that she shouldn't have to share with the entire country. She didn't ask to be put in the spotlight and she shouldn't have to pay because her mother is running for Vice President of our country. I will also say that I admire Sarah Palin for the way she's handling this and I admire her daughter for keeping the baby and marrying the father. I pray that it turns out to be a good decision. I'm not always in favor of a young girl marrying the father of her child simply because it's not always a good match between the two and I don't want to see one error in judgment compounded with another. I think it's great that she's keeping the baby but I also believe she could make that choice because of her parents' support and the way they raised her. Even if she had said she was going to give the baby up for adoption, I could have understood. However, I think that the way she was raised in such a loving family, I don't think she could have handled giving the child up. At least she has her family behind her no matter what. I think it's terrible that someone was so cruel to insinuate that Sarah Palin's fifth child was actually her daughter's child and she was covering for her. What a cruel thing to do to someone just because of an election. That's the only reason Sarah Palin told people about the pregnancy at all. It was a private matter that didn't have anything to do with Sarah Palin as a leader or a candidate. If nothing else, her daughter's choice shows how well her mother has raised her and makes Sarah Palin look all the better.

I posted a comment to another discussion talking about this earlier. I will not be voting for Obama. I don't really relish the thought of voting for McCain, but I feel that McCain will be the lesser of two evils. Unless Obama does something to really impress the hell out of me between now and then, I will be voting for McCain in an effort to keep Obama from being elected. However, I do agree with what Obama said when he was asked to voice his opinion on this issue. I agree with the fact that a political candidate's family is off limits. It will in no way affect her ability to serve as VP. Some people will likely attempt to use this situation against her and McCain. Sadly, there are those who will let this influence their voting decisions... Hopefully, Obama will not tolerate this from his supporters if it happens. I will have to see a lot of improvement in my opinion of Obama before I would even CONSIDER voting for him. As a matter of fact, the chance that I will vote for him is virtually non-existent, but I have at least gained a little respect for him after his support of one of his opponents in the race.
