I used to rent a car once I arrived the airports or train stations of my destinations.I just like to self-drive during my trip in the new place,I could drive everywhere, stop at the roadside if there's good view out there~~I quite enjoy the feeling of drive in the strange roads, strange cities. It's the real travel I think~~How about you?Have you rent a car when traveling? Thanks for sharing with us~`

We rented a car to come to Daytona Beach from Virginia. the one thing you forgot to mention about renting a car is the fact that you're not putting miles on your own car at home. I have two cars and a motorcycle at home and I don't want to wear them out before I get too many many miles on them.

Well, thanks for your comment`~ There's one more question,Im not sure what's your mean of"putting miles on your own car at home"?I understand that your mean if you've your own cars at home,it'll not necessary to rent a car?Am I right?

No. I mean that if I rent a car to take long distant trips then I won't wear out my own car which we left at home. Besides, it's more comfortable to travel in a newer car.

In other words, instead of flying then renting a car, we drive the whole trip in a newer car.

I visited San Franciso and did not rent a car. The cost to park was extream and when driving in the city it was very difficult to find a palce to park. The had good public transportation. When I drove to New York City I rented a van and took my sons family too. No worrys about the car or breaking down. Any problems call the rental agency/ I enjoy driving and if it is easier and cheeper to rent and drive my self I do it.

I haven't ever hired a car when I have been traveling overseas. I only have one friend that drives in France and then over to other countries in Europe. In my home country we drive on the left hand side of the road and in most other countries they drive on the right. I have cycled in Finland and later in my life in the Netherlands. That is a relaxing way to travel short distances. I love to travel by train most of all and my second favorite way to travel is by bus. During the day I can look out of the window to see the passing scenery. In some areas I have been to like rural areas of Australia and New Zealand public transport wasn't good and I would have loved to have had a hire car.

That's exactly what I was missed in my discussion. As we drive on the left side in my country, while most of the countries on the right side, except Canada,USA.Before renting a car in the right side countries,I have to translate my driver licence into an int'l one and the most importance I will get used to the direction when driving. It sound a little bit complicated, however, after renting once,I just can not leave without car.~~As you mentioned.as well I would like to take the train between countries in Europe. Thanks~~lol

i'm renting a car too when we're going out of town trips coz we feel comfortable renting a car than riding a bus or public vehicle. if we have rented a car, we can do whatever we want, we can play guitar, we can request the driver to put some sounds or movie, we can lay down etc. hehehe.. & the most important is, there's no hassle..
