children who dislike reading

My daughter always disliked reading, she had a hard time in doing it, so she always gave up.
She had a problem in school, and when it was time for her to read in class, she was embarrassed.
Our solution was MADD Magazines. My husband always had some in the bathroom, and one day she was in there a long time, so when I checked on her, she was reading them or trying to.
I mentioned this to the teacher, and she thought that it was a good idea, like the funnies in the newspaper. So slowly, we advanced to preschool books, and up. today she is a senior, and still has a bit of reading problems, but not as bad as it would of been if we didn't start with something that interested her.
So if you have a child with the same problem or similar, try the MADD Magazines and funnies from the newspaper, you might get the interest as we did.
But, I also have a question. She still dislikes to read, but I need to know what is a good book or author that might catch her interest? I tried Chicken soup series and she wasn't interested in that. I don't want a book with just words, it needs pictures as well...she has an IEP at school for education handicap and she reads things backwards. so I need something she can relate pictures to.
She still reads the MADD, and the funnies, which is alright, but I want to keep advancing her reading,

I always hated reading also because I had to read something more than once before I could remember what I had read. I would also have to have complete silence too. I didn't have trouble with the words but the book had to interest me and it also needed to have some pictures in it also. I think your daughter will be fine if she likes reading certain things. I still, to this day, have a hard time remembering what I have read and it has to interest me.

She can't pronounce alot of words and she knows what if is, but put it in a sentence and she doesn't..she use to have an i.e.p in elementary and junior high with help from special ed..but since high school they thought she didn't need it anymore,,,i fought but lost....she still has problems and still hates reading and is a senior this year..in order to take test, they have to read the directions to her for she can't read them that well nor does she understand them unless you explain them in a simple way to her...thank you

Giving kids with reading materials that have nice visuals can motivate them to read. I am just curious, because there are kids who refuse to read because they tend to see words jumping. This kind of problem is what the expert call dyslexia, it's like when you see the word dog, they see it like god. Try also to consult with reading specialists, they have better suggestions on how to make kids love reading. :)

She doesn't see words jumping, just reads them backwards...she still hates reading and is a senior now, and still has problems reading,,,she has to have a specialist read directions, etc to her. other than that she is a very smart girl...they should of kept her on her i.e.p throughout high school as well instead of just in elementary and junior high..she was doing great til then..thank you
