Me, yes...My friends and i have headed a program before which we collect clothes, food or money that could help those homeless and we also donated some...So what we do is find organization that assists these homeless and give them those we have gathered from donations..it's really fun helping others, much to those who are needy...and until now every time i got a chance to help, i do... So how bout you, did you ever do anything to help the homeless?

I have not participated in a programme that help the homeless yet. I look forward to take part in such a programme organized by local communities. I believe the most crucial of all is to help them find a job, find donations for clothes and food as you have mentioned. I'm even prepared to let out a room in my apartment for them to stay in. The most important of all is they are human beings like all of us, and we must not pretend not to see them.

Please don't say that, well my family is moving to a bigger apartment soon so it's alright to accomodate. We are not a rich family but I think I'd do the best I can to help them. They have dignity, dreams and desire for friendship and love too. As a Buddhist I always believe that everyone has an innate goodness and beauty irregardless of our environment, and I want to help them discover theirs too. So I guess I would start looking around to see if our government has such community involvement programmes.

oh you have a beautiful heart...sharing your apartment is a big help to those homeless...why not start on your community an organization or make a program that will help those people who are needy, i know there's a lot who will extend their help... hope to hear from you soon! have a nice day! God bless!

Not really, not even when kids ask for alms. I think giving them alms perpetuates their current status. I'm not sure which is the right approach because I know that they also have to meet their current needs. I guess that's why we'd rather give food that money.

you have a point dear! and your right, better give food than money...but for those who are sick and needs money, i think it's just right to give them money...seek for organization that assist these homeless to give and extend your help to the homeless! Thanks for the post! God bless!

That was a good point. I think it would be best to either refer them to an organization or to report them to the organization. Then it would be safer and more efficient if we were to support the organization itself. It's what I'm planning to do soon (for my birthday hopefully). And I think this is the time when I plug-in :D http://cottolengofilipino.org/ Cottolengo Filipino is a non-government institution that houses and takes care of physically and mentally challenged orphans. It's in the Philippines so if you're from a first world country then a little of your help, converted to our denomination, would help a lot of kids. I am in no way affiliated to this organization. I discovered the organization when we were required to do an out reach program for our Theology class. You may visit the site if you want more information. If you actually need help, I can assist you by helping you contact a staff member or an official representative - as I said, I'm in no way affiliated to the organization :P

When i was a bit younger my cousin volunteered both of us at a shelter. They had to get a bunch of donated clothes and we layed them out for people to pick from. Also, we served them food at the shelter. It was actually a very sad experience. Alot of them were on something, most of them were too embarassed about their situation to talk to us or look us in the eye. Then there were some with children that were just so grateful for what we were doing. Deffinately opened my eyes about things.

Yes...I tried to help other people not only the homeless but also the other who live in a squatter's area..We conducted some feeding progam, and some programs that giving foods and clothes to them..It really feels good when you helped someone with all your heart and you see their excitement and happiness in the things you've done..We also conducted a family planning programs to the parents who have lots of kids and they can't support all of their kids on their needs..Helping other people is the best thing to do...being a good samaritan that you're not waiting for any in return just when you see their smile in their face it's enough to be say that all the things we'd done is worth it..

I always involve in this donation campaign. Not only for those homeless but also for those blind center and some other center, and of course for the poor ones. In my hometown here, every Christmas, there will be an event called "Love in A Box" where there is a long list of what the poor children wish to have written on it. We can get one of the child's name and see what he/she wants, then we can get the gift for them, wrap it nicely and give it back to the organisation to distribute it back to the children. Every year, i will sign for few children and get the Christmas present for them.

my school have donation drives, where we each will be given a container to ask for donation form members of the public. we would stand under the sun and ask each and everyone that passed by. i agree with you that it's really fun helping others. even if the amount of money collected was quite little. i would still have a smile at the end of the day.
