What Was the Movie that Most Shocked you? |
|
I have to admit, I'm a bit of a horror fanatic and I guess I'm really into the old blood and gore theme!! But, there was one movie that I will never forget and here it comes: 'Cannibal Holocaust'. Have you ever seen this movie? Also, what were your thoughts about this movie? Were you well and truly shocked? I remember the first time that I saw this movie and I did not know what to expect. Oh it definitely mentioned on the cover that this movie had been banned in so many countries, this was one of the reasons that it caught my eye! Anyway, if you don't know about it already I will give you a brief outline. 'Cannibal Holocaust' is about this group of backpackers and they travel to the Amazon forest in order to shoot a movie or rather a documentary about cannibalism! However, things don't turn out as they expected and well no one knows what happened to them. What did happen to them? Well, you should definitely watch the movie, I dare you!! Anyway, there I sat watching this movie and things start getting really graphic, I mean graphic!! This was only a movie right? But, I just could not believe what I was witnessing! The content of the movie was extremely graphic as regards the Amazonian tribes feasting on human flesh, nothing was left to the imagination. I almost felt sick! I can tell you I have seen some really good horror movies in my time, but the most horrendus thing about this particular story was the fact that it was based on truth, real life! This movie was based on a true story about some ignorant backpackers who had no idea what they were getting themselves into. When the movie had come to an end I just sat there in disbelief! This movie definitely pulls at your heart-strings! Would I watch this movie again? Definitely despite the shock and horror of the content as I now know what to expect! I guess it was the right decision to ban this movie as some people I'm guessing would have very weak stomachs! Anyway, I allow you to be the judge! By all means get yourself a copy of Cannibal Holocaust, if you think you can handle it!! See for yourself what I experienced alone one dark night!! Oh! By the way, if there are any other movies that have truly shocked you, I would like your views about them. Thanks in advance!! Andrew

1. rogue13xmen13 (5862) | 3 months ago | I am never really shocked by films that are graphic, I am shocked by how bad some films can be made. Take "Spider-Man 3", that was so bad I wanted to cry afterwards, it was nothing like the comic book. Stan Lee should have protested.

AndrewFreyne (1002) | 3 months ago | Hi, thanks for your response. It sounds to me like you definitely have a strong stomach!!! Would you take the risk though and chance watching 'Cannibal Holocaust'? I haven't seen Spider-Man 3 but I will take your word for it that it was bad!! I really enjoy horror movies and graphic contect! They definitely take you places that you have never been before! Thanks. Andrew

rogue13xmen13 (5862) | 3 months ago | I probably could because I know that most of it is just Max Factor make-up and film dummies, none of it is actually real, unless it was based on a true story. When I mean that "Spider-Man 3" is bad, I mean it is bad in terms of storyline. A lot of the storyline was so far from the comic book it was depressing.

AndrewFreyne (1002) | 3 months ago | Yes, I would definitely agree as regards the film makeup and so forth, but in this movie you would never know the difference as least I didn't! Andrew

2. Xdrowninghavocx (3083) | 3 months ago | I've never seen or heard of Cannibal Holocaust. And it seems like something worth checking out, lol. I love movies like this. I saw the movie Dancer In The Dark for the first time recently and I must say that I was impressed. I really like Bjork's acting, since she's actually a singer first. The movie is shocking in a subtle way. And I'm not going to share the ending, but I was shocked by that.

AndrewFreyne (1002) | 3 months ago | Yes, it's definitely worth checking out! If you do see it, let me know what you thought about it!!! I haven't seen Dancer in the Dark though, I know of Bjork she's the singer isn't she? Anyway, thanks for your response. Andrew

AndrewFreyne (1002) | 3 months ago | Hi James, We meet again! Thanks for your response. I think the movie I described will definitely have bile rising in your throat! I guess I have you all curious! I haven't seen "Once Were Warriors" though but it does sound like my cup of tea!! I don't think they make horror films or deep thinking films the way they used to. Anyway, to date I have not seen anything to match "Cannibal Holocaust"! Andrew

James72 (3710) | 3 months ago | You may be happy to know Andrew that I have been downloading "Cannibal Holocaust" for the last hour or so and according to the timer I have around 20 minutes or so to go! It says it was made in 1980? So it is an older movie then. I will watch it this afternoon and let you know the outcome. Big question is whether or not I will end up eating the beef that's defrosting for tonight's dinner after this movie or not! lol.

|
AndrewFreyne (1002) | 3 months ago | Hi James, Wow! You are the first then! Let's see if others follow suit!! Let the beef defrost! You can recover after the movie and have the beef tomorrow! I can't wait to get your feedback!!! Andrew

James72 (3710) | 3 months ago | OK. I have watched the movie and you are definitely one sick puppy! lol. The ending especially was pretty full on and it all did look so real. Considering that the movie was made almost 30 years ago they did a good job making it all seem so genuine. I can see why it was banned in so many countries! It was absolutely gross in many parts. The journalists certainly experienced a bizarre form of karma in the end.....

AndrewFreyne (1002) | 3 months ago | Hi James, Thanks for getting back to me on that one! Yes, it was definitely quite intense! How did the beef steak go by the way? I guess you eventually had that for dinner afterwards!! I think that I liked the ending the best but the music that goes with the movie just makes it so haunting!! Thanks again. Andrew

4. AbbeyB (202) | 3 months ago | Darkness falls was the scariest film I have seen, i love horrors but the fact that this is about the tooth fairy is really scary.

AndrewFreyne (1002) | 3 months ago | Hi Abbey, Thanks for your response. I haven't seen "Darkness Falls". Have I missed out on anything? What is it about horror that people love, myself included? I think that it's all about the surprises that are in store! Is the boogyman going to jump out of your closit? Is Freddy going to haunt your dreams? I just love horror films. I love it when it's really silent and then all of a sudden there's a loud blast of music and this really gets my heart pumping! Give me a pizza and a horror movie any day of the week!! Andrew

AndrewFreyne (1002) | 3 months ago | Hi, Thanks for your response. Believe you me, if you haven't been shocked yet, this one will really grab you! It's quite an old movie now which makes it even more shocking regarding the content. I'm sure if you do a search on the Internet you are bound to pick a copy up, that's if you really want to!!! If I was to set up a horror club then I'm sure that you would be one of the top members!!! Horror movies are just great though! I can think of lots of others which were pretty good like "Demons", "Demons 2", "Day of the Dead" and so forth. These movies help you to entertain your worst nightmares. How do you know that Freddy or Jason are not going to pop up from behind the sofa when you hold that cushion so tightly? I tend to have dreams after a movie, but hey I love that! Andrew

6. sabbatha (240) | 3 months ago | I'm a huge horror fan myself, but gore and such usually doesn't shock me. It's in way too many movies now days. In fact a friend of mine recommened a film that shocked her (she's a collector of avant gard and foriegn horror and nothing shocks her). The movie just made me laugh! It was done with low budget film techniques which made it look like a real snuff film. There was even a scene where...how to put it mildly...the girl they were toruturing pood herself and they smeared it on her. The movie that managed to shock me contained no gore what so ever. At least not until the sequels, then they got too gorey and not nearly as good. That would be the movie "Saw". When I walked out of that theater I was saying that I understood why they were trying so hard to make sure that the people who went in were of age. I've never seen them do that for the other R rated movies, but for this one they were cracking down and there wasn't even any blood except that one puddle in the middle of the floor. I just loved that it was such a mentle mind f#@$. I totatly didn't see the end coming. That's huge in today's blockbuster movies that are soooo incredably predictable. Course they totally ruined it in the sequels but that first one will go down in history as the first horror movie to shock me, and so far the only one.

AndrewFreyne (1002) | 3 months ago | Hi, thanks for your response. It's probably as you say, "It's in way too many movies nowadays". But, in the 80s I think they made some really good horror movies. I have heard of "Saw" although I haven't seen any of those films. I think I noticed some of the trailers though and I thought they were pretty good. I'm not too keen on the horror movies of today that are predictable, I don't like that much! You don't get much of a fright anymore! The films of old though, yes they are real classic masterpieces! 7. sabbatha (240) | 3 months ago | I bet anything that my friend owns "Cannibal Holocaust". Sounds like her kind of movie. I'll give it a try, if not I'll see if I can get it on netflix. James72, "When were Warriors" sound pretty good. I just watched a couple of clips on youtube and ended up adding that one to Netflix. I love foriegn films. I think that they don't try to cater to the masses like many of the movies that Hollywood puts out. They usually have much more plot and depth then the movies that make it to the theater here in America.

9. rhyannefranz (396) | 3 months ago | I have watched this movie about 2-3 years ago when I was in high school. I watched this with my high school friends. We were really shocked watching it, and I thought it was real as in a documentary of sort. But later on I knew that it was just a movie, but its a great movie. Gore movies are really thrilling to watch, here are one of my fave gore movies. Hostel, it really has contents that I dare not look at, like the time when the eye of a chinese girl was burned with a blow torch. I dare not give more details because I think those of weak stomachs can't read this. But I can say that it really is a great movie and I think you should all watch it.

AndrewFreyne (1002) | 3 months ago | Hi, Thanks for your response. So, you were shocked but you enjoyed the movie all the same I take it? There's definitely a certain reality about this movie and it truly is horrible to watch. Would you ever venture into the Amazon forest for a holiday and try and meet up with some of the tribes? I no that I wouldn't despite the reality or not of this movie. There are still very primitive practices going on in that part of the world! I haven't seen the film "Hostel". It sounds like it could be added to my list of favourites! Andrew

I do like "Day of the Dead" as well as the modern version of "Dawn of the Dead", truly terrific, bloody, gory films! Give me a zombie movie anytime. Andrew
