Working out your mpg... cost of petrol (gas)

Fascinated to see the picture our Canadian friend has uploaded, well come to the United Kingdom. The price of gas is now £1.10 a litre... at a guess this probably works out to about 7USD a US gallon. At least I have a 1 litre Vauxhall Corsa which does about 50 miles to the UK gallon, so with my weekly mileage of 20 mile round trips to work, I'm not sweating too much... I do like to work out my mpg each time I fill up at the gas station, so usually reset the trip meter each time and fill the tank right up to make a calculation. Keeping the foot off the gas pedal a bit these days to eke out the fuel, especially when I'm on the dual carriageway/ motorway (freeway to you USA'ers).
Has the recent steep climb in the price of gas made you change your lifestyle to any great extent? What general experiences would you like to relate with your driving?
The stage is yours!

I managed to pay £1.08 in Asda in Hatfield on Monday. It's £1.12 here in Wiltshire. I have a hybrid car so whilst my mpg isn't too bad, my green smugness really come to the fore when I am in town, running on the battery, decelerating and braking or at traffic lights and junctions when I use no engine power whatsoever and the petrol engine has turned itself off. A few weeks ago I drove from Gloucester to Bath along the M5/M4. I had the car on cruise control at 69mph the whole way on the Motorway; I was the slowest car save those that were towing caravans! Clearly there are many for whom the need to drive thriftily is not yet a reality.

At present I think that we are a little bit in denial about oil. Prices are coming down again and we'll see a new dawn and not realise that it is false. We need to start re-thinking how we use this resource. It's still there, but the cost of extraction is increasing and soon (less than 10 years I think) we'll really start to feel the impact of our profligacy of this "holy" liquid. Many thanks for the BR.
