Yesterday I was free and had a great time with my 3 year old kid. In the night he got bored and I wanted to engage him. So I played few teletubbies games in my laptop and he enjoyed playing them. I was astonished to see his clicking co-ordination. He enjoyed playing the games in my laptop. But I have a doubt..Is it ok to allow a 3 year old kid to play games in computers? Which is the right age for kids to use computers?

Well I am not a mother so maybe I shouldn't comment but I would imagine the earlier the better, as soon as they show interest, it can only be good if kids see learning as fun and if it comes naturally to them all the better, I knew nothing about computers when i first got mine and I learnt a lot from kids, their little brains are like sponges at that early age so i say let them learn whenever...

Children are smarter now. the moment they are able to control their movements they would like to imitate their elder siblings on the computer. I don't think there is age limit as they grow up in line with computer advancement. Get them the feel of computer by buying those toy computer which function like the real one.

My parents were both very big on using computers in an era when most people didn't own computers. So I grew up learning to use a computer, and could program my own very simple programs by the time I was about 7 or 8. I think the early exposure to computers has really helped me know quite a bit more about computers than a lot of other people my age, who didn't have that early exposure. And when my baby sister was born, there were then 6 people in my family. So my dad went out the next day and bought our family our sixth computer, so that the new baby would have one to use as soon as she wanted to. :) So yeah, I think 3 is not too early to be using computers, as long as there is adult supervision to make sure they're using it in an appropriate fashion (not banging on keys, not accessing things they shouldn't) and such.

That is great..I think you had been more intelligent than the other girls of your age. It is not an easy job to write programs at the age of 7 or 8. I think it was all because of the good exposure and the encouragement you got. My child also has great interests. I just want to encourage him. Now he is in exploration stage. So I leave him on his own way with puzzles. And I sit beside him.

Im a mother of 8 months old.I and my husband planning to buy our son a baby laptop as his xmas present. For me,it's ok if the kids going to use computer in a good way, you just need to guide and monitor his computer use and make sure that he is doing educational thing in the computer and that help alot on his mental development, and don't forget to limit his computer usage.cheers!

A baby laptop is a greatest gift you can give your baby at this stage. Sure he would be having great fun with it. Now since that my son is too young, I allow him to play puzzles(and not otehr online games). He watches nursery rhymes too. He loves them. May be as he grows, he would be using it for more educational purpose.

I think it's true that kids are getting smarter these days especially when it comes to computers! I think that the earlier a child is give a computer the better! Why not introduce them to the world of technology and computing at a very young age? They should be given the best start in life and considering our world mainly revolves around computers these days, this is the obvious choice. I think that it's ok for children to play with computer games. It all depends on what games you are allowing your child to play though. I think that it will definitely do their mind some good and will probably benefit them later on in life. Computer games tend to get you thinking logically and this is what I like about them. I don't know whether there is a right age to allow kids to experience computers. I guess, the earlier, the better!

That is true..When the kids are exposed to technology at an earlier stage, they would be learning it with fun. I started to use computers when I was 19 only.I can still remember my feelings on the first day. It was my classroom and when my teacher gave me a chance to use a computer I was not that confident. I asked my team partner to work with computer. Later I practiced to use the computer in the evenings after my class was over. We bought a pc at home afer that. But my son has a previlege with 2 computers at home - one for my hubby and one for me.So when he sees us working with laptop, he gets an interest and confidence too.

That's really good. I think computers are going to be around for ever and they will become more and more advanced as the years pass. Thanks. Andrew

I've let my daughter use the PC since she was about three. I used to go on with her and she only plays games on educational websites. She uses computers at school a little and is very good, she can even type alittle. I think it is important to use computers now and around three is a great age to introduce them. As long as it is not replacing free play and getting outside in the fresh air, a little play on some educational games does them more better than harm. I make sure she doesn't use it too often or for too long, it's better than sitting in front of the moving wall paper they call television!

You are absolutely right. I never allow him to use the computer for more than half an hour. That too he plays with it only after 7pm. He loves to play in outdoor. I never stop him playing outside..I don't think he will stop it too..lol..

My daughter has been playing on the computer since she was about 2 1/2. It's a great way to get her to settle down before bed.

My son is now 15 and he was just over 1 year when I went abroad for work. Before that I had a very primitive type of computer and he would press the keys sitting on my lap. He knew that you have to wait for the command prompt to press the keys and will always wait for it. He also enjoyed the beep sounds when pressing keys on some occasions. Some programs where pictures change he would press the keys and tell the words like "bal" for ball and "Bah Bah" for dog. If I tell things like "show a flower" he would press the keys and stop when the picture of a flower comes. So I think you can train the baby from the day he is born. I too love the computer and has never been coached or taught of the subject by someone else. Everything is self taught and I have coached other in computer related work. My son, now 15 uses the computer with such is and seems to be even better than me.

You are the only one that can determine that. There is no age that is too young as long as they show interest in it I say involve them in the computer. As you have seen it is a good tool to improve their co-ordination. Then there are a lot of sites that are for kids. They have games on the sites. This is the age of the computer and kids at a very young age are using the computer.

21st century is said to be a computer age. Today children in their childhood start tickling if you show them laptop. :-D. I think children in primary school in standard 3 or 4 can be the age where we can start teaching computers to them. Initially games will be their prime interest and then followed by technologies as they grow up. :-)

In our school district, the children have computer class in kindergarten! And, although my children did not attend pre-school, I'm sure there were computers there for children to learn numbers, colors, etc. through games galore. My kids have been playing on the computer since they were in diapers and so far, no adverse affects have been shown...LOL! I agree, though, that kids need parent monitoring. Limit how long they are on the computer and as they grow up...monitor what they go on as well. Just as long as you don't let the computer consume their time you'll be good!

Computer class in kindergarten is good too. When children are exposed to the latest technology, they will gain more confidence and knowledge. But parent monitoring is very important to see how much time they spend on computer and also how they spend the time..

I think children can use computers at a young age. It all depends on the child and if they can handle it. I knew a boy who was 6 or 7 and very smart for his age. He knew how to use a computer without help. One thing you need to do is have parental control tho because there are so many weird people out there now days looking for young children.
