paradox saying

I was wondering around and found this saying and it brought me to thinking how true it is..
please read it and then please give me your thoughts on it and how it makes you feel.
We have taller buildings, but shorter tempers;
Wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints;
We spend more, but have less;
We buy more, but enjoy it less.
We have bigger houses and smaller families;
More conveniences, but less time;
We have more degrees, but less sense;
More knowledge, but less judgment;
More experts, but fewer solutions;
More medicine, but less wellness.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too seldom and hate too often;
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life;
We've added years to life, not life to years.
We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have
trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor;
We've conquered outer space, but not inner space;
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul;
We've split the atom, but not our prejudice.
We have higher incomes, but lower morals;
We've become long on quantity, but short on quality.
These are the times of tall men, and short character;
Steep profits and shallow relationships.
These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare.
These are days of two incomes, but more divorce;
Of fancier houses, but broken homes.
It is a time when there is much in the show
window and nothing in the stockroom;
A time when you can hear me and make a difference
or choose to sit and pretend you didn't hear a word.

I've read that beofre. Can you share the name of the author? It sounds a lot like a piece I read for one of my soc classes.
I completely agree with it. We live in a time of hurry up for nothing, gather it up for noone, get it done to do it again. Its a shame really!!

bellachaoshi this is a good discussion. it makes you really think and stretch our minds . but I am really trying to add life to my years by mylotting and meeting friends here, learning, finding things we all can link to, and feeling younger every day.
We allwould do well toread and reread these paradoxsayings.
we have all and yet sometimes we have nothing. We still judge others by how they look,we dont take time to know them so how can we judge them at all. we are more outspoken a nd excuse our rudeness by saying oh I was only joking, cant you take a joke?
used to be older people were valued for their knowledge now the youngerones say old people should not be sticking their noses in to things, or likeone said, miserable old people. thesewere remarks made right here in mylot. I think that these people willalso be old one day,if they live that long. with mean quips like that they might just last that long.

The younger generation no longer respects their elders as they should and that is sad. I was brought learning to respect my elders. But I also am the type of person where my gram know's me good enough by now what I'll listen to and what I need to learn from experience. God I love that lady ..

That is one of the reason's I moved out of the city and into the country. The pace of life is slower. People actually think before they speak. No road rage. Less killing and stealing because we all know each other. More courtesy, etc.
I'm happy here. It feels like home. I wish this for everyone.

Wow bella, that was really deep and very true! All of it! I
don't know where to start. I'd like to pick apart each and
every verse, I will sum it all up as best as I can. The
truth is we have so much more now, but yet me have so much
less. The more we get, the less we seem to learn and
appreciatiate. We take more things forgranted. As we receive
we seem to forget to give back. We just seem to expect
that things a due us and not have to work for them or even
be decent upstanding people anymore. We don't treat each
other with respect. We don't care about our neighbors or
even keeping our own families in tact. We only care about
what things look like on the outside, not what is on the
inside. It is a shallow and selfish grouping of people that
we have become. We care about no one and nothing. Nothing
really matters. We are just going through the motions of
being and that is really sad!

how very very sad it is Opal. I think everyone needs to start setting time aside and really really try to just slow the freak down and savor and cheerish the little things life has to offer.

Nice food for the thoughts, and how very true how of these sentences are. Hmm..
Men are becoming more and more self-centered, and we are too becoming more and more self absorbed to the extent whereby values and morales are a hey thing of the past.
Perhapes it is retribution whereby as we advanced in our technology and knowledge, nature acts up and claims back what is rightfully theirs. As we supposedly grew academically and progress in our economy, we are actually much more smaller than our ancestor. People of today do not know what is hardship and likes to complain too much. Our ancestor who use their sweat, toil and blood to give us what we have right now.. But how many of us are thankful for that and give thanks and appreciation to the past?
How many of us really stop and think of what it could be and what could have been if our ancestor had not given their all to build up what we have today? They think for their future generations and work selflessly to give us the best of our lives. But, how many people of today's generation think that way? How many old folks are we seeing in the nursing homes? How many of us really hold on to the values of yesterday.
Nice discussion!

Thanks and I agree most people don't see past what they are or can get. They don't hold on to traditions or the past ..They trample anything that gets in there way without stopping to think.
