Why are there LESS home security alarms in bad areas? |
| |
| the nicer neighborhoods every house has a security alarm.. the ghetto no one does.. makes no sense!! unless the house subdivision has a deal with the subcontractors to put in alarms with their houses then wouldnt you think the bad areas of town would have more home alarms since there is more crime? | | | | | |

| | Have you ever thought that it could have been because of cost? Home security systems are not cheap. Think about it. | | | | | | |

| | neither is replacing all of your things though and repairing damage to your house etc.. yeah it cost some a month (most places are putting the systems and turning them on for free now) but i would think the peace of mind it worth it. i have one of the most expensive but it cost the same as my landline.. less actually.. way less | | | |

| | Bad neighborhoods tend to be at the lower end of the financial spectrums. Home security alarms tend to be expensive. The reason most homes in bad areas don't have home security systems is because most people in those areas can't afford them. | | | | | | |

| | I'd say it's the cost of the systems monitoring that keeps the lower-income families from getting security systems. Before I was married, I bought a house in a lower-income neighborhood. I wouldn't quite call it a ghetto, but it was pretty bad. I bought it to renovate and sell in order to have the down-payment for a nicer house in a nicer neighborhood that I'd want to settle down in. I got married and had kids while living there. Since I had to toss my husband out on his ear for being stupid (to put it nicely), I was in that house with my two kids and raising them on my very meager income. I literally had NO extra money. If I were to have a security system installed, I would have had to cut something else out of my already too-tight budget. My "security alarm" was my 60 pound border collie/English setter mix. He was an excellent watchdog! There is probably more crime in these areas for two reasons. The first would be that lower-income areas tend to house some undesirable people simply BECAUSE they are cheaper to live in. Second, because most people can't afford the security alarms and are more vulnerable to criminals. | | | | | | |

| | Hahahaha! I'd say you're secure enough without a gun. I once lived in a basement apartment (the "Cellar Dweller") and someone broke into the room containing the furnace. The door from that room into my apartment had only a latch hook for a lock. I was scared poopless!!! I grabbed a hammer and my BB gun. I had a dog who weighed about 20 pounds. She heard this intruder and was growling her head off. I went to the door of the furnace room and said, "I have a gun in one hand, a hammer in the other and a dog at my feet. If you have any sense at all, you'll get out NOW!" I heard glass breaking and someone exiting my apartment very rapidly! Once I was sure that he was gone, I looked in the room and saw that he had broken a small window in that room to unlock it and had entered that way. When he left, he apparently didn't even bother to open the window, but flew right through it! LOL So, even a BB gun, a hammer and a 20 pound dog were enough to protect me that day. Of course, I WAS home at the time. Gotta train those dogs and attack cats (we have one of them, too) to dial 911 in case something happens when we're not at home! | | | |

| | Sadly the bad areas are also the poor ones and the landlords are often slumlords...The tenants cant afford to put them in and the landlords can't be bothered to since they dont really give a crap... | | | | | | |

| | god i hate slumlords!! i one time rented this apartment from a place that the office (it was a real estate place so not even an apt office) was beautiful and new and everything they showed us was crap except for one place.. we rented it and then the play slowly fell apart and they wouldnt fix anything so i turned them into every government place and news place and all of a sudden everything started getting fixed.. it was a miracle.. haha | | | |
