OJ Simpson Trial | | This is not about OJ's Guilt or innocence but how far should a prosecutor go to get a conviction. In this case we have six people who committed a crime and two are standing trial while four are testifying against them. I don't know what kind of deal the four got but it seems to me that to go easy on a majority to convict one or two does not make sense to me.
What say you?

They're always about making deals, it makes their job easier and gives them more evidence to work with.

metalhalo (517) | 1 year ago | Me personally? None. But my family has been in law enforcement since before I was even born. Chief of police, Detectives and one District Attorney. I've gathered my opinions from overhearing theirs.
Their main objective of course is to catch all the bad guys but that's not always the case. If they can get witnesses and evidence on the "ring leader" then they see that as a bigger win.
I don't agree with giving any criminals deals..if they've done the crime then they should do the time. The deals are used to nab the bigger badder guys.

bobmnu (2647) | 1 year ago | In this case why do they need to make deals with four of the six? I think it makes their case look weak if they need to deal with most of the other members of the gang. I agree getting the top guy is important but so is making sure that all the criminals pay for their crime.

metalhalo (517) | 1 year ago | You have to look at the main details of the case. Who was the ring leader? Who's idea was it? Who carried out most of the crime? When there's a group of people committing a crime usually there's 1 or 2 people in that group controlling everyone in a way. There's always at least one who's calling the shots.
I agree that even the EVERYONE involved should be punished..they've commited the crime all the same. When making deals most of the time they're still being punished in some way..whether it be a shorter jail sentence, probation and fines.

Does it mean my participation in a crime is OK because I'm willing to tell on someone else? It seems to me that by doing this, some people get away with the crime they committed. Like they are rewarded for tattling and their crime is non-existent. I think everyone involved should be punished equally. I understand that it makes the Prosecution's case easier, but in all honesty, I wouldn't believe what the criminal has to say. The incentive to lie is too great, because the reward is so big. I can easily see a criminal saying whatever the Prosection wants them to say because it is to their own benefit. I don't mean to imply that the Prosection is pressuring them to lie, what I mean is, if they ask you to testify against a co-defendent, isn't it obvious that they want the goods on that person? How would they know if you exaggerate that person involvement and minimize your own? I just don't tihnk it's a good policy. if a criminal were to testify for someone's defense, wouldn't they be considered an unreliable witness? So why not when they are turning State's evidence? It's a double standard, credible for prosecution, unreliable for defense. It makes no sense that these criminals should be believed or rewarded.
