99¢ store is raising their prices.....

I just saw on the news that they are raising their prices.. from 99¢ to 99.99¢ That is just under a penny price increase. So they were interviewing people in a store as how they feel about that price increase. So here is this older guy complaining about them raising the price and how he is on a fixed budget and it will throw him into a higher tax bracket ( not sure what he meant by that - tax bracket is based on earnings not expenses, but whatever!) and said it was to high of an increase and he just couldn't afford it... but here is he complaining about how a (near) penny is going to break him, while sporting a fancy Bluetooth in his ear! If a partial penny is going to break him, maybe he should cancel his cell phone luxuary! Then a lady - slightly younger than him, but looking older than younger, talking about how it is less than she thought and glad it isn't any more and saying it is reasonable and she'll still shop and be glad that is all it is. ANother younger guy said he had heard about it and ran it to "stock up" and now this is "all the increase is"... he is glad that is all it is and understands their increase. I say, I am glad that is all it is, and understand they to have to raise prices, and glad that they have been reasonable about it. I wish other stores and companies would raise their prices in such a reasonable fashion! Is the .0099¢ (if I got that decimal right!) or "less than a pennY" increase going to stop you from shopping the 99¢ Store? WOn't me!

Oh dear, a 1 cent increase? This inflation is killer! I'd probably still go there though, if there was such a place in New Zealand. We only have a 2 dollar shop, but as far as I know, the price is still 2 dollars .

Yeah, I think we'll be able to manage!! I just wish other stores followed suite instead of raising theirs 100 times more than that!! THis guy I think just likes to complain! There are other similar stores - Dollar Tree, Dollar Store - they are and always have been dollar and they haven't gone up. HOepfully they wont!

Wow I didn't know those existed :) We have dollar stores here, so I guess we already had our raising penny form the beginning :) Honestly, I wouldn't think that this would be the kind of raise that would make me get all upset, I get upset when one week I buy a package of rice for $1.99 and the week after it is $2.69.

Yeah, there are as many of those as a dollar tree or store. I just go to the Dollar Tree as it is cleaner and more "nicer clientel". Also, not as crowded! And all over a penny in the first place! I'll stick with them! I just went today and spent $13 for halloween decorations for my GD to decorate the house - I don't care for the holiday but she loves decorating! She got a Gargoyle and made the ugly thing her little friend! But the house is decorated for $13. Can't beat that!

I think we make more than that when we respond here on myLot. I guess they can't go over $1.00 or they wouldn't be a .99c store than. We don't have them around here that I know of. We have Everything's $1.00 stores and Dollar General. I love those stores even though most of the stuff is made of plastic and comes from China. I don't like going to the big grocery stores and can find a lot of food there. I also get all my toothpaste, toilet paper and laundry soap there. That way I only have to go to the grocery store about once a month. If I'm real lucky, which I usually am, I can make a list and my daughter goes for me.

That doesn't make sense. We don't have coins valued at less than a penny. How are they going to give change? And what would anyone want with 1tenth of a penny?

They'll do like they do with gas - they just don't show the 9/10th of a cent on the signs anymore. Used to have the signs saying like "$3.25 9/10" and then round up. Even if it was a penny, I still wouldn't complain about it.

Gas is bought by the dollar amount. So if gas is 2.999 per gallon and you buy $3.00 worth of gas, you're getting a teeny, tiny smidge of gas more than a gallon. Items in a dollar store aren't purchased that way. If I buy an item for .999 and I give the clerk a dollar bill, what am I getting for change?

A real bargain, cheaper than you would get at any other store.
