What's with the cheap airfares of airline companies

I'm wondering why the airline companies here in the Philippines are offering cheap airfares. I always see their discounted prices in the news papers and internet. Do you know the reason why?

They are only cheap when you book really early, like a month (or months) before the flight. I think it's just a marketing strategy, because most people will choose flying rather than sailing if they have a fixed schedule. Also for the reason that even months before a flight, the passengers would already be fighting for a seat.

I think not. The airfares that airline companies offer nowadays are not for early booking. I think, if you book now, you could fly at the end of September.

Ever since they started all the discounted airfares, it has been a big thing for us since me and my friends love to travel, and were able to go anywhere. I have a friend in the ticketing office with Cebu Pacific and she said its all about competition. Anyways, they have smaller airbus, lesser allowable baggage and no snacks though, but it doesnt matter as long as we be anywhere for a lesser price right?
