The One thing I do know is, there was a time when everybody had one and in some fashion still do just a little fancier and more practical. Yes the old necessary Privy or better known today as the Outhouse. Every year at this time I get ready for my favorite volunteer stint at a place called Barberville, Fl. off highway 40 west of Ormond beach. For over 30 years I have been doing this volunteer work. We teach kids what it was like in Fl. back when people did still use privies and did not have electricity etc. There is a wonderful group of folks who give their time and memories and patience to thousands of children so that they can have a taste of what Fl. was like when it was scary with swamps and snakes and you were lucky if half your kids managed to make it to marrying age. I carve these little privies and other items to help folks remember and I give them as gifts to folks who I cherish too. If you live in Fl., you ought to check it out. They have their big Jamboree Nov 1 & 2. It is a blast from the past!!! Shalom~Adoniah

Hello Urban, I have used a few in my time and am very glad that I do not have to do it on a regular basis. Though I do like "roughing" it a bit, which I will be doing in a week and a half. I get to go and stay in a friends cabin out in the sticks again this year!! It is hard to find "the sticks" here in FL, but it is still possible. Shalom~Adoniah

I grew up having an out door privy. We had electricity and running water but not a bathroom in the house. I had to help dig a new one every once in a while. They aren't bad in summer but I hated going in the winter when it was cold. I think that all kids should experience a blast from the past, not just the privy part but not having radios or TVs, but having to carry in fire wood to heat the house and cook too. It sounds great that you are giving kids that kind of experience. The pictures you carve are nice.

Woodcarving is one of my loves. I am not as fast as I used to be but I do poke along. I can remember the wasps and bees being a big problem along with the occasional snake.lol Shalom
