I've moved to the country and now I'm FORCED to have dial-up instead of DSL or broadband.... Omg! Could it be any slower?? It takes me 10 minutes to load one page and it freezes me up all the time. I also have a new computer which has Vista on it. AHHHHHHHHHHHH I do NOT like Vista! I can't play any games except on yahoo. Pogo won't load a game for nothing. I'm so aggervated. It really isn't even worth the time to get on here anymore. Once you have High-Speed, you will lose your mind when you use dial-up!!! Anyone else deal with this? Any tricks you know to make it run faster? Do you ever feel like throwing your keyboard through the screen? ;-) Have a great day!

Hi Stephanie, nice to talk to you again. Well since we last talked, I have also moved further out into the country but unlike you, I have broadband. Now you might think "Lucky for her" but my broadband is slower than dial up. When I moved into the house (a brand new house), none of the phone sockets worked and then we discovered a phone socket that did work. It was on the wall outside our house. I was able to go outside my front door and plug my phone in and make my calls. However, I wasn't going to set up my pc and my desk out in all the rain. To cut a long story short, we eventually got the phone sockets working inside the house but when we plugged in the modem none of the other phone sockets worked. If we plugged in a phone the modem wouldn't work. The phone company says I need to phone technical support as it is not the phone line but I know it is the darn phone line. They screwed them up with all their mucking about. After my six month contract is up, I am going to cancel the broadband and then get them to fix my phone line and when it is fixed I am going to get my broadband from another service provider. Sorry I wasn't much help to you but we can both cry together.

Hi Alexandria! Nice to see you are still around! If I were you I would be calling that phone company and tell them, either you get out here or I'll switch to a different company. That might get something done. Internet service really isn't cheap and to pay for it when you can barely even use it is REALLY annoying! I wish you the best of luck. I hope your problem gets solved quickly and I hope they hurry up and offer me DSL out here. What makes me really mad is that our neighbor has DSL and the town that is two miles from my house has DSL....We are in BETWEEN the two, yet we can't have it. What the heck is up with that??

Hi Step, I can understand your frustration. Unfortunately, the phone lines here in Ireland are all owned by one company...Eircom. There are lots of internet service providers but they have to rent the lines from Eircom so they would just be renting my screwed up line. All the repairs have to be done by Eircom and of course, they won't do them. I am in a no win situation until my internet contract expires and I cancel it. After that I won't have broadband so I am going to hound them.

I can really sympathize with you Steph. I have broadband now, but I used to have dial-up and then it drove me bonkers. Not only with its slowness, but mine used to drop out, and I had to redial continuously. However, to go to dial-up AFTER having ADSL, well I don't think I could adapt to that. I hope you're a very patient lady.

hello i really understand what you feel, i already Break down 2 of my screens because of that lol Got used to ADSL with a great Bandwitch and when i came to my Aun't farm, the connexion was so slow ... all what i did is taking a new Cable, called my Provider and they pluged it From the Main Dial-up's station directly to my Modem and the connexion become good. Vista is too slow, try to install XP SP2, it's more good.

Steph if possible go back to windows xp instead of vista. Try to delete internet browsing history and cache files from time to time. Doing a defragmentation every now and than also helps. That will help the computer speed.

Maybe you can tweak your system, by turn off any services that connected to internet, turn off automatic updates, use internet accelerator to boost your internet speed, or use some proxy software that allow you using their proxy server
