Given today's world of Outsourcing and Offshore development, do you fear being laid off? Especially when your company sets up an offshore development center does it feel that you are at risk or do you feel the company is expanding? Cheers! Ram

I feel the fear of being laid off is inevitable. I feel one need to have certain skill set to survive nowadays. With a specific skill set, at least I can still join the outsourcing company if I am laid off. LOL.

That's great. But, would you feel comfortable moving to a different country where the outsourcing company now operates from!! Cheers! Ram

If the prospects are good enough to justify my going over to another country, it is worth considering.

Should I say I'm on the other end. I'm with the outsourcing company. It's good you started a discussion like this because I have never thought that people could be losing jobs while we are earning. I just thought that companies outsource because they lack people to do it (the job) and it would be cheaper to outsource than to train a new one.

That is what the companies would want you to believe, but the truth of the matter is that jobs are being shipped to different locations and that means a cut down in jobs of the base country. That is why Outsourcing is a key issue for this year's Presidential Elections in US. Cheers! Ram
