Learning to Knit  

gee I haven't really seen anyone knitting for years, I can remember years ago as soon as the cold weather came there was knitters everywhere, at work in the rest room, on the trams anywhere a lady could sit down not I never see them any more....

When I was a teenager (long time ago) I had taught myself how to knit. I didn't like it much so I ddn't keep it up. I like to crochet, I have done that since I was a kid, my mom taught me. I have made all he grandkids baby afghans, now some of them are getting grown, I have been thinking its time to make them grown up big afghans. I just don't seem to have the time. I have two other big afghans to make before I take that project on.

I can knit scarves, and squares for baby blankets, but that is about it. nothing too complicated, but people can always used scarves and baby blankets, so I am in luck with my knitting skills. I made myself a really nice black and white scarf some years ago, and I'm thinking of knitting a scarf for my husband one of these days. I think he'll probably need it up here in Canada, during the cold weather.

I have never tried to knit before. My grandma used to knit all of the time and she was really good at it. My aunt knits also.

I tried to teach myself to knit, but I was eleven, and it did not fly. I do crochet. maybe I will teach myself sometime. I buy needles and yarn at yard sales. I like the idea. I am using a loom right now, trying to make a poncho for the granddaughter. This knitting loom works on the same principle as the spool knitters we used as kids. Have you seen any of those?

Like you villageanne, I used to knit quite a lot. I would say that I was actually addicted to it. Once when I was on holidays here in Ireland, the weather was so bad that I was stuck in the hotel for most of the time so I got really bored and had to go the shops for some wool, needles and a pattern. I used to knit traditional aran sweaters and I often sold them on eBay. It was mostly people in the USA who purchased them and they would write and ask me if I could knit some more for them. I have now found other interests so I gave up the knitting.

i used to think that knitting was for sissys and i used to make fun of my sister for knitting all the time i always called her a geeky nerd and stuff like that...then three years ago when i was a senior in high school i joined a knitting club that the school offered i figured that it would be an easy extracircular activity and since i quit cheerleading i needed to find something to put on a college application so i learned to knit and then i started to think it was cool i do not have much time to knit but i do it when i can
