To partition hard drive is necessary to run the OS smoothly. It also needed to maintain the data in a good way in the system. I have 160 GB hard drive. I created 6 partition like Audio, Video, Soft, Personal. I use to operating system. VISTA and Widows Xp

6!!.. its way too much, Your system is bound to slow down if you do that. Have you installed both Xp and Vista in same computer?? I would suggest you not to do that. Plus if you want your data to be kept systematically arranged, i'll suggest at the most 3 partitions. I have 3 partitions in my 120gb. 1. Os drive. 2. Downloads, softwares and music 3. My work. 3 are more than enough.

Hi mylotter! Its not any problem to have many number of partition, its your convience. The more partition you have the greater the speed you OS will be at.In any case dont try to overload your OS drive. That will be a bad effect on the performance of your computer.Thank You

If you have 2 operating systems on your hard drive you only need 2 partions on it. one for each OS and that is not even necessary. and you dont need to do this for it to run smoothly. Now what it sound like you have done is keep all your data seperated so that it is easy to find, This is not necessary but it is fine and will not cause any problems with your system

I would say 6 is too much. I usually prefer to have one for the operating system which I keep at around 20 GB for an XP OS. For Vista, I would suggest this to be around 30-40 GB. Then I prefer to have 2 or max three partitions for the data. If you plan to have both Vista and XP, then have one for 20 GB for XP and one of 40 GB for Vista and then have two 50 GB partitions for your data. Cheers! Ram

3 partitions in HDD are best . Use File & folder System to store Audio/Video/Software Personal . Making partition for this purpose is useless. make Space for this partitions (%) as primary partition C: = 30 -40 % Secondary partition D: - 30 % third partion E = 30 %
