What extra-curricular activities did you participate in when you were in school? |
| |
| I've already posted a discussion about extra-curricular activities for your kids. This discussion is about you. When I was in elementary school, there were definitely not as many of these activities available to school students. I took some piano lessons for awhile but this was not school related. In Middle School (Junior High) I was involved in girls softball for a few years and I played the alto sax in the concert band. I never got into any major school sports. In High School I was in concert and Marching bands. Yes, I was a band nerd! . Band was a great experience for me. We learned how important each member was to the group. It was also the place where I met my best friends at the time. Band is full of really great, well behaved, and interesting kids. I LOVED those years. How about you? What were your activities? Did they help you in your future adult years? Did you have the tremendously exhausting schedule that kids today seem to have? Did your parents push you too hard? Did you do what THEY wanted you to to, or was it something you genuinely loved? | | | | | |

| | In elementary school I was avidly into sports. Gymnastics, soccer, 3-Pitch, you name it I did it. As I got older and went to secondary school I did more intellectual things, like writing and reading clubs, music clubs and the yearbook committee. I still have the passion for writing and in high school I had a poem published in the yearbook. Maybe one day I wll post it here as it is very sentimental to me as I was quite young when I wrote it. | | | | | | |

| | I was involved in varsity athletics in high school. Wrestling, baseball and football were my sports of choice. While I never made it past high school in any of these I did make friends on the team that I am still in contact with today. Being a "jock" was a great experience for me. I had a ton of friends and even if I didn't know you, you knew me. As for my schedule, it was pretty full. Football practice sometimes went until 7pm and we got out of school at 2. I was able to graduate with a satisfactory GPA but I know I didn't put as much effort as I could've without sports. Overall though, it was a great experience for me. I feel as though in high school the kids are old enough to manage their schedule as they see fit. | | | | | | |

| | We didn't have too much available to us in elementary school. I did play basketball when I was in 4th grade, I think. I was in the gifted classes and that was pretty much my extra curricular activity in elementary school. In high school, I was a cheerleader from Jr. High (8th grade) the whole way through, except for the last half of my senior year. I was in show choir my senior year and I was really sorry I hadn't joined it before that. We really had a great time. I also ran track for part of a year until I fractured my ankle and couldn't run. | | | | | | |

| | During my highschool days. I am active in the Science and History club. That is the only extra curricular activities i did. In college i was part of the student body governmet in our school. I still prioritized my studies though. I did all those activities by choice. My parents were not too particular if ill be active in sports or get involved in other activities in school for as long as i had good grades. That is all that matters most to them | | | | | | |

| | Hi rocketjl!! I was pretty busy when you think of it.. wow! How did I manage it all.. I was on the school's basketball and volleyball teams, in the drama club, on the school newspaper, in the math club, on the decorating committee, in the school choir AND managed to do well in school as well! I also worked on weekends. This was in highschool and after that, college and university were pretty serious business and very costly and so I needed to devote as much time as I could to all that I needed to digest to get good grades. I also worked part time, a few hours during the week and every weekend. My mother had great expectations of me. I am grateful for all the education I have, I went on over the years to educate myself further for more opportunities and that was also a smart move on my part! I followed my mother's wishes and then LATER became 'my OWN MAN' as one could say and took my own place in society doing what I wanted. No regrets here. | | | | | | |

| | I would say the amount of extracurricular activities you handled in HS, was an indicator of your ambitiousness in your future years. You seem unafraid of a challenge:) Thank you:) | | | |

| | where i wnet to school most of the kids lived some distance from the school, indeed there were some that never saw daylight at home, apart from the weekends for 6 months of the year. they were about 1 1/2 each way, if you missed your bus you were kinda stranded. consequentially we had very little in the way of after school stuff. as for lunchtime stuff...not much there either. every so often an enterprising new teacher would try and set something up but it never lasted and would stop within a few months. All of which geos some way to expaling why i was involved in no extra curricular activities! i did gon on a school exchange...which was horrific. i was also a student librarian. that's all folks! | | | | | | |

| | There really was not much when I was growing up for extra-curricular activities for kids and even now there is still not much in our area but I remember one year they had drama and I had signed up for that and from grade nine to twelve I joined track and field . None of these helped me as an adult but they were fun to do when I was younger . My parents never pushed for me to try out for anything and accepted when I did try out and participated in these events . | | | | | | |
