Did anyone here do anything special this past weekend for the equinox? |
|
The group I hang out with did drumming in a semi-circle with the fire at the beginning of it. They told stories, sang and meditated. Then they had a pot luck dinner inside.
I worked a rummage sale and my regular job. Still, if it had been on Sunday night, I would have gone. I found out too late on Saturday night, that it was going on. I worked until 7PM, so it would have been too late by the time I showed, changed and drove there anyway.
Do you go to pot lucks? Do people you know have pot lucks? How often do they have pot lucks? What ways to they celebrate if they do not have pot lucks? Do you have any friends or know people who drum, tell stories, sing or meditate?
I used to belong to a group that had pot lucks once a month. We used to do guided meditation. A different person would lead each month. But our lives became so busy that we couldn't keep it going. Now just 4 times a year, the two equinoxes and the two solstices. So I feel badly that not only did I miss this one, but I missed the summer solstice one before it.

writersedge (4401) | 1 year ago | Well, Happy Birthday to your Bro. Another reason why I thought the gathering would be on Sunday. So what do you have planned for him?

ElicBxn (15125) | 1 year ago | A birthday card...
No really, the only reason we do much for my birthday is because it lands near Thanksgiving AND dad died the day after it. Even then its generally only going to eat - and generally for Thanksgiving anyway.
These days my roomie's folks are kind of holding a joint birthday for the 2 of us - because their wedding anniversery is the 31st of October and her birthday is Nov 14th. What with my birthday being 9 days later, they have been doing the party between the 2 birthdays. At nearly 48, I'm thinking she might be like me and just as happy doing it for Thanksgiving... I may be wrong.
Honestly tho, I've had so many bad things happen around my birthday, I start celebrating on the Sat before and keep going until people stop giving me presents (one year it was Feb.)

writersedge (4401) | 1 year ago | Sounds like you scored a lot of presents. Sorry bad things happen around your birthday. I'd be praying for good things only to happen and would see if that worked, I had my wedding around the time I ended up in the hospital every year. Figured I'd be too excited to get sick, and I was! Hope only good things happen this year. Take care

ElicBxn (15125) | 1 year ago | I don't really, I just consider myself celebrating if I get another one!
I tell you what the real deal is tho, the bad things happen about every 20 years - so we're over due!
After all, JFK was shot Nov 22, 1963 and dad died Nov 24, 1984... sooooo

writersedge (4401) | 1 year ago | So did something happen in 2004 or are you overdue?
| |
|
|
ElicBxn (15125) | 1 year ago | I guess I'm over due - or maybe evicting the former roommate in early Dec 2004 might've been the event - sure was for her.

writersedge (4401) | 1 year ago | Hopefully that was it. Happy future birthday and take care.

writersedge (4401) | 1 year ago | Interesting, where are you and what is a blot?
We are alternating between unseasonably warm and unseasonably cold. Weather from the south and then weather from the north. It's very strange. I can be almost too warm or too warm and then so cold I need a jacket a day or two later. Take care

huswyf (967) | 1 year ago | I'm in England, although it is now slightly warmer again so no frosts yet!
Blot comes from the Old Norse term for blood as it was originally a sacrifice or sacral feast or meal.

writersedge (4401) | 1 year ago | I see, thank you for explaining.

writersedge (4401) | 1 year ago | So what do people do for the harvest blot?
| |
|
|
huswyf (967) | 1 year ago | We gathered on an allotment (plot on a community garden) that two of our members rent to grow their own food on. We filled and passed around a drinking horn giving toasts of thanks to the gods and landwights particularly involved with food production then we moved on to an outdoor feast.

4. PearlGrace (1883) | 1 year ago | Hi. I have not been invited to a potluck since I can't remember when. I don't even know of one that's occurred for years. I would like to have a potluck supper just for us and my 2 sisters and their husbands. I have often thought I would talk to them about that. We would do it just for the heck of it.
My brother in law is a former drummer from a band, but I don't think that's the kind of drummer you are talking about. Although I know quite a bit about meditation, I've not really used it. I don't know anyone who sings, meditates, or tells stories.
It sounds like you have had alot of interesting experiences. Thanks for sharing.

writersedge (4401) | 1 year ago | I can't imagine life without any pot lucks for years or not knowing anyone who sings, meditates or tells stories. My life would have no culture at all.
Well, at least you know a drummer! It is different, but it is alike, too. Thanks and take care.
