I get these really nice newsletters from healthier.com daily. You see I'm getting up in age and have a hubby with high blood pressure so I've been reading up on healthy things these days. Thought you might like to know a little about potassium, it's in lots of stuff that I wasn't aware of! [i] "So far, research has shown that potassium does lower blood pressure. Studies have not indicated that calcium and magnesium supplements prevent high blood pressure. Here's the latest: Potassium helps to prevent and control high blood pressure. Be sure to get enough potassium in the foods you eat. Some good sources are various fruits, vegetables, dairy foods and fish. I'm glad you put this in. I knew potassium was important and knew that diuretics could deplete it (as can heavy perspiration) but didn't know it controlled blood pressure. My mother, who just went through another trip to the hospital - this time for respiratory distress and congestive heart failure, has to take potassium supplements and reduce her sodium intake. The doctor agreed that potassium salt would be a good thing for us to get. She was in the mood for tomato soup at lunch, but we didn't have any, so I found an easy recipe online and made some using canned tomatoes. I didn't know tomatoes had so much potassium, which is good because she had a full bowl, plus a grilled cheese. The milk in the soup plus the cheese also provided a bit more. It looks like my quicky "homemade" lunch fit right in with her doctor's orders!! So - thank you very much for listing this. She was low in potassium and I probably am as well (I'm also on diuretics), so I'll be sure to keep this list handy to know what things best fulfill her needs.

You learn something new everyday. This is really good. Thank you for posting it up on this discussion. I am thirty eight and have just been told that I have high blood pressure. Three times this year my reading was high. I am severe asthmatic and I think it is all the medication that I am on, or maybe it is because I cannot breath everday. I have been searching high and low and did not know about these foods. I eat very healthy. I take calcium supplements but if I need more potassium, I will try these on your list.

Well blood pressure and oxygen go together in a sense. I'm glad you found it helpful.
