For many years Bill Gates ran the day to day operations of Microsoft. His original ideas blossomed and then pretty much peaked with Windows 95. Since then the windows franchise has gotten more bloated and less secure with very little new innovation. The fact is that it is based on code and systems that were developed 25-30 years ago. Technology changed and the old ways became easier to mess with. The basic system of having a base operating system that any software or hardware maker could design for was great and the computer revolution could not have arrived without it. Bill has recognized that the innovations have to move forward it that system is to continue. the problems with Vista not being able to work with older software and hardware are a symptom of the changes. By stepping down from day to day leadership he allows new blood to come up with new ideas so that his company can continue to make him money. In the meantime he can devote more time to his altruistic endeavors. Like many in his position Bill is a bit of a control freak. As such, while he likes giving money to causes he thinks are worthwhile, he really wants a hands on approach to handling the outcome. The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation allows him to give away money while controlling how the money is spent. Stepping down from Microsoft means he can work full time on running the foundation. Other examples he is following: The Rockefeller Foundation, the Stambaugh Foundation, any number of Kennedy projects, schools and foundations. The Carnegie foundations and institute... Even after the founders die they often leave the running of these charities to family members out of fear that corporate bureaucrats would squander their legacy.

Since his charity is dedicated to education, you might need to start a school. The virtual campus is the wave of the future for developed nations and I know his foundation is helping other organizations to make it functional in developing nations as well. i can't wait to see what might develop on that front when a software mogul pursues the objective. Of course, it doesn't bode well for the folks with heartbreak stories unless they are oriented towards education. I'm guessing you need to find another rich philanthropist who is interested in your problems.

Bunch of money laying around - Wouldn't it be nice to have all or some of this.
If he is I would love for him to send some my way.:) I think there would come a point if I had the assetts that he does that I would have to give some away. What good is it going to do me if I try to just horde it for my self. I have bought everything I need a way too much more. So it is only logical that I now turn the tides and give some of it away.

That would be great. As a pastor my wife and I have a list of things we would like to be able to do to help others as well.

I like to just dream.. don't we all..? I am like what if he (Bill Gates) reads this discussion and see's that I know a lot of people that really honestly and truly need some financial help. And he contacts me. AND I get to help all these folks, so that they do not have to struggle so much.. That would be a awesome blessing!

The Bill asnd Melinda Gates foundation has been doing this for years, and they've done some amazing things for our country, as well as other parts of the world. Bill Gates is, without a doubt, one of the most admirable people in the modern world.

The exact details aren't readily in my memory, but he and his wife have done a number of very personal projects, helping individuals and families. The do so much more by helping groups, though, that they do mostly that.

Hey louise, I haven't heard anything about it, but if he wants to give his money away I could sure use some of it as can so many people. Do you know what kind of plan he has? That sounds really weird. How does he think he is going to pick people to give it away to. He is the most wealthiest man at the moment. I haven't seen anything about this on the net yet so who knows. I will be looking for this article for sure. I'll check out the new tonight to see if they have anymore on it. If I hear anything I'll be sure to report back to you in this discussion!

I think that it is very rewarding to be in a situation that you can give to others an make a huge difference in their lives. I have in the past been in such a situation and I did help others. I felt it was a huge blessing to me! and to those I helped! Thank you!

Now that's pretty surprising.. Bill Gates is actually planning to give away money to other people? If he is planning to give away money to other people who actually want his money (not me...) that's really great, but I wish he is planning to get rid of vista and bring back win98 SE :p
