Steam or Boil? Or just stir fry?

I like to steam my veggies. I'm not a good stir fryer. I only boil them as a last resort. I think steaming and stir frying are a healthier alternative to boiling. How do you like your veggies cooked?

Yes, corn works really well in the microwave.. I found I can do one ear for about three minutes.. Even when I boil my vegetables in a small amount of water, I do it at a low heat so as not to lose the vitamins and minerals.. I like to make a stew of just vegetables too! Yummy!

Hi Hi.....I also love steam veges and stir fry but more so steaming them. Cos the vitamins and nutrients are still there and besides steaming vege is easier. I just put the vege on the steamer insert of the rice cooker when rice is being cooked. And veges a kinda cheap over at my area so I just eat a lot of leafy ones.

Veggies are much cheaper than meat in my neck of the woods and that in itself is a good reason to eat more veggies!

I love eating veggies, I prefer them to be steam or stir fry. I don’t boil my veggies as it loss the nutrients in it especially if you over cook the vegetables. Half cook or just right is perfect for veggies to have its nutrients intact.

I agree and beside that when I do boil I have a tenancy to overcook.

The only time I steam veggies is when I am using my rice cooker. It has a built in steamer that steams the food while the rice is cooking. It is pretty neat. Otherwise, I would say that most of the time I stir-fry my veggies. I boil corn.

Stir fry is good if u have it in slivers cos its quick, or if u like ur veges crunchy if they are bigger pieces. Steaming is healthy and keeps the nutrients in. yeah boiling is no good unless u drink or make soup from the water because alot of vitamins go into the water. Also i dont like soggy veges (unless in a soup!) Happy cooking :)

I think the only time I do boil my veggies is when I make my veggie soup.

Hey whywiki, I will do all of the above. If I'm making frozen veggies I may boil them a bit and then stir fry if I'm making a dish that calls for them to be stir fried with chicken or beef. I very rarely steam them. I just boil them to the point where they are just right, not too much so that they are mushy. I just never bother to steam them. I don't even know why. I could, I just don't. I guess when they'r frozen it's easier to just throw them in the boiling water so that they defrost and cook quicker.

On the rare occasion I use frozen veggies I boil them. I don't know why but I do. My hubby always complains and says they taste funny I think it is him that is a little funny!

I like steamed veggies too but often I end up stir frying them with a bit of chicken. I don't boil veggies unless it is corn on the cob or fresh green beans. My favorite way of preparing veggies is to marinate them and cook them on the grill. Grilling them gives them extra flavor.

I never thought of marinating them and grilling. That is a great idea, I can't wait until I move and can have a barbecue.

I am getting older now and my blood pressure is rising so I am trying to eat as many as I can, sometimes it is just too much! I can definitely see where you are coming from.

I love mines where they are boiled..It gives moisture and a juiciness to the vegetable. I also like them stir fried.. I will choose this option when I have fresh frozen vegetables.. I like to use a bit of olive oil, or canola oil..
