If you could change your Runescape account name, would you? |
|
When I first started Runescape, I had no idea that I'd still be playing the game 4 years later. I didn't put that much thought into the name I gave my character. I used a part of my usual nickname, and then followed it by a number which was my age at the time, giving me the name Snoop32. I thought nothing of it at the time. I was fine with it.
4 years later, I often find myself wishing I had chosen my name more wisely. I get asked a lot if I'm a Snoop Dogg fan. That's not nearly as annoying as those who just assume I am and say stupid things to me like "Yo Snoop Dog! Drop it like its hot." By the time this started to bother me, I had already put much too much time into the account to just start another. I would definitely change my name if I could. The problem would be finding a name that isn't already taken that doesn't require adding numbers.
I've often wondered if some of the obviously young players who choose silly names involving the word "poop" and the like, will regret their choice of name as they get older. If they continue to play, they'll have to look at the juvenile name and shake their heads, wishing they'd developed their maturity a bit earlier.
So if you could change your Runescape name, would you?

1. DarthJustice (1285) | 1 year ago | Honestly? No, I wouldn't. I actually like my username, even seven years after I first started playing Runescape (although I don't play all that much anymore). At the time I joined Runescape, I was obsessed with the Falco song "Rock Me Amadeus". That song is actually what made me pick the user name I did. Of course I'm not going to tell my name and how it's spelled here though because I don't want a potentially lot of people to randomly PM me:P

I also understand the desire to not reveal your username. I wouldn't have done so if I didn't keep my private chat set to friends exclusively.

2. The_Rocket (75) | 1 year ago | I've always thought about changing my user name as I was about 10 years old when I started playing RuneScape. Since I never thought I was going to be playing this game for that long, I came up with a ridiculously stupid name which I regret doing so. By then, it was too late to start again from scratch, as I already progressed throughout the game. So yes, I would change my RS name if I could now, definetely. I've even messaged Jagex about it.

| Snoopielyn (38) | 1 year ago | I think a lot of players who started playing at a young age would change their names now. It most definitely is a shame that Jagex doesn't give the option to do so. I suppose it would be hectic if everyone wanted to change their name. It could also be potentially confusing to those on the player's friends list. Considering all the other things Jagex has come up with, I'm sure they could figure out a way to do so. They would just have to put some limitations on it, such as how often it could be done. Maybe they could allow everyone a one time opportunity to change their name after several years of playing.

3. uath13 (3753) | 1 year ago | My character name is one I use for most everything. It's my birthday on the old gaelic calendar. Sometimes I do get annoyed explaining that it's Uath not Utah.

| Snoopielyn (38) | 1 year ago | I can definitely see where it would get annoying to have your name misspelled and taken out of context continually, especially as the name has signifigance to you. I consider that in the same vein as people assuming the "Snoop" in my name is referring to Snoop Dogg instead of considering it in the vein of being a snoop.

4. LordSims (117) | 1 year ago | I wouldn't. I like my name. I've gone through many nicknames in the last 4 years, but I've always came back around to liking my account name.

| Snoopielyn (38) | 1 year ago | After playing for a bit today, I've decided it doesn't matter what my character name is, as noone used my name today. Today I was simply level 123. I think that may be worse than people thinking I'm a Snoop Dogg fan.
That's good, LordSims, that you still like your name after 4 years. I like the Snoop part of my name. That will never change. It's other people's reactions to it that I don't like so much.

5. 060157 (761) | 1 year ago | hey the same thing happened with me. i just wrote a random nick 'N3ov' when i registered to this game. didn't know that i would still be playing this game four years later. i don't hate my nick though but i would have wanted it to be MARS or something like that since that is the initials of my name and this is the nick that i use in all of the multiplayer games i play and in multiplayer tournaments. some ppl think that N3ov is something out of star wars, maybe relating to R2D2:S

| Snoopielyn (38) | 1 year ago | I suppose it could be worse. You could have a name relating to Pokemon.
It's not always evident when signing up for a game that you're going to like it well enough to continue playing for a long period of time. I found the game on my own, not through friends or anything, so I didn't really know anything about it. Of course, it's tough when you realize months or years down the road that you would like a different name. You then have to weigh which is more important, the name, or the time you have already put into the account.

060157 (761) | 1 year ago | LOL @ name related to pokemon
now i see how this could have gone wrong but thankfully i always choose non-embarrassing nicks even for the sites that i don't think i'd be frequently using.

6. wunovakind2 (339) | 1 year ago | Yes! I really wish I was aware of them game when it came out so I could've made several "original" names. I'd love them to be simple, like "Emily" or "Angel" or something witty even. Like now, the given "optional names" you can choose while signing up (and yours is taken)are completely random and not very attractive. Unfortunately, its too late to make anything I'd really like.

|
| Snoopielyn (38) | 1 year ago | I, too, wish I would have found the game when it was first released, and was able to get a completely original name without the game telling me the name is taken and giving me an option of adding random numbers to the name.
My biggest problem is that I have numbers in my name, not only that, but at the time, they signified my age. It irritates me now, 4 and a half years later to have that in my name.
It is still possible to come up with an original name. For me, the biggest problem is the limit on length of the name, causing you to have to shorten it somehow with numbers as well. I created a skiller for no other reason than I thought of a name for a skiller and found out it wasn't taken. I work on it from time to time, and find it comes in handy to play with when playing with a friend who just started. It makes them feel less of a total newb than if I play alongside them with a much higher account. The name of that character is combatsovr8d.

8. vakundekel (120) | 1 year ago | I wouldn't change my name because I kind of like it. I had this name for a few years and now i wouldn't change it. My friend made this name so why would I do it? I have many screenshots and it would be strange to have another name as on them. Some names are good some are not but it is fun to see names like pokeball1337 and so on. Just reminds me of my childhood. Happy Myloting!

When I pronounce it in my official languge,it sounds horrible,so when I'm eelling my friends under what name I play Runescape with,I spell it letter by letter. It's a disaster,I'd bribe jagex just to change my goddamn name.
