This will charge your cheap, readily available batteries while the vehicle is running. Well actually it lessens the burning of oil and since you don't burn the oild yourself. If you use electric cars they don't emit carbon dioxide anymore to the environment that is why it is greener alternative than a regular car that emits lots of combustion gases that is dangerous to the environment.

It is true that the battery still need recharged and the electricity has to come from the power plant where in most cases are burning coal or nuclear. But then, even if you are using traditional way to generate electricity, the power plant can still do it much more efficient than your little engine in the car. Most engines provide power by burning the oil which effectively is an explosion which push the shafts so as to provide power to the car. Now, that "explosion" while very controlled, is very inefficient. In the power plant, on the other hand, generating electricity is much more efficient. So, theoretically, you use less fossil fuel to power your car to run the same distance. And it does not consider the fact that electricity can be generated from renewable resources such as solar, wind, hydro, etc.
