My daughter had a fever for days because of her cough... good thing it was nothing very serious... although i had to take her to the doctor 3 times just to be sure it was not Dengue... she lost her appetite... and it is so difficult to feed her... But she would still eat some soup... so i have been cooking different kinds for a week now... chicken noodle soup, el nido soup, crab and corn soup... etc... etc... So what food do you usually prepare when your kids are sick?...

It was really really had at first not having her around all the time. But I soon got use to it. Now we only talk about once a week. We may email back and forth. My son lives out of town also, he lives four hours away and when he leaves I want to cry every time.

Hi aseretdd, since this is an old discussion I believe your daughter is much healthy and energetic now. with the help of your good care, surely the lovely girl grows taller and more beautiful than before. I usually would prepare some rice porridge for my son if he is sick. Yeah, when sick the kid doesn’t have any appetite to take food. Only lean meat, fish or vegetable gruel is suitable for him. Besides I would like to prepare some homemade herbal tea for him. He loves the tea very much. We believe taking lots of such tea could help to lower the body temperature Happy posting

Hi Aseretdd, I don't have any kids, but when my little nephews and niece were sick, I prepared soft foods for them. It's usually porridge (with chicken or fish to give it some taste), oatmeal or soups. One of my nephews prefers soft bread and warm drinks.

I read that some herbal medicines are not suited for very young kids... but juice is good... especially those very rich in vitamin C... helps strengthen the immune system of the body... Thanks for the response...

We always made homemade chicken soup or beef noodle soup when our kids were under the weather. Seems there is some sort of healing propereties to chicken I guess as it usually worked fairly well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

when they are sick they dont have a good appetite. so i usually give what they want to eat. if tehy like a chocolate drink the i will give it unless the doctor said it is not good for them then i will give something else. i give them gatorade if they also have fever. i buy something sweet like jam or peanut butter or something that is sour like oranges so it can get rid of the bitter taste that is at their tongues while with fever. try to boil water and while it is boiling put eucalyptus drops and it will help your child breath easily. water water water is important so she can go and pee everytime. peeing a lot washes all the bad elements inside our body.

I am so sorry to hear that. I hope your daughter will get well soon. Here we will offer porridge to children especially when they are sick. We think that the porridge is easy to digest and therefore it won't give an extra burden for the children who don't feel well. I love China

Well, although I don't have any kids, if I did I would poach them an egg and serve it with a mug of clear chicken broth and maybe half a grilled cheese sandwich. Yes on the soup.

Hello aseretdd, My son never lost his appetite though he is sick. As far as I can remember, only once he really didn't want to eat due to sore throat and high fever. Most of the time, he always has a good appetite. He loves chicken and rice. As long as I add chicken into the meal, he will eat his food. Whenever he is sick (which is very seldom) I will cook something like chicken soup and sometimes he only want to eat his cereal.

Wow... you are very lucky in that aspect... it breaks my heart when my daughter just doesn't eat when she is sick... good thing that she has now regained her appetite... and just like your son... she loves chicken... in fact... she considers all kind of meat as chicken... Thanks for the response...

My son rarely eats when he is sick, so it is hard to know what to make for him. Soup would be good except that he usually doesn't eat it. So instead I cook his favorite foods and hope they will entice him to eat- mac and cheese, meatballs, any kind of pasta, applesauce. I also offer him lots of juice and water to drink.

I hope that none of your kids have gotten sick after this discussion :) Or if any of them did, I hope you got a few good tips from the first few respondents :D I'm no parent so this is from the "sick kid's" perspective: getting sick with high fever and soar throat (cough/cold) feels terrible and we do lose appetite easily - at least I remember that I did. Even though we CAN eat anything if we were forced to, it is not advisable. It's good that you fed your daughter soup because that's recommended - soft diet for the sick so that they won't have to stress their body in digestion. My mother usually cooks lugaw for me. If it's a terrible sickness related to my tummy, I get lugaw with one piece of egg and very little salt. Once I get a little better, she prepares it with chicken but she's sure to shred the chicken meat so that I even though I'm too tired to chew, I'd still be able to digest it well :) Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Thanks for the response...

Usually my kids do not want to eat so I usually try to give them whatever they want. If they are vomiting or having diarrhea I do not give dairy or fruit juice since those both make it worse. Other than that they can have soup, light sandwiches, small amounts of chicken, etc
