Do you call yourself an artist?

I had to laugh. I don't often call myself that but others do as that is what I am, rflmao. Are you getting tired of my avatar? OK just for you I will change it for Halloween!

Despite having painting hanging in various homes and one public gallery, and photographs and prints in permanent collections in public buildings, no, I do not call myself an artist...too prententious for a simple man like me. My poetry appears in print from time to time, but I don't consider myself a poet, either. Don't get me wrong: I produce graphic art of a professional standard, my work includes designing for government, and my photography has been regularly awarded through the years; but an artist? No. I like it when others describe me as an artist, and I accept that some of my work has artistic merit, but if I am in any way a Capital 'A' Artist, it is only an aspect of who I am. I describe myself as a photographer, and leave anything else to others. If you want to make a judgement on my work you can see examples at http://www.davidrichphotography.org ~ feel free to critique. But even if you judge my work to be art, would that make me an artist? Don't think so.

I do cross stitch and have started to design my own pictures. I do consider myself an artist with a needle and thread. The cross stitch photo is not finished it is of some sheep with butterflies. My son's girlfriend wanted the sheep, it is a baby announcement when our first grandchild is born sometime in February.

When it comes to photography, I consider myself an artist first and foremost. I do some commercial photography work here and there... but mostly just so that I can focus on my art.

I do call myself an artist. I write and I am currently studying drama. I also enjoy photography. So, I certainly consider myself an artist.

while I do take pictures, I am not a professional by any means. My profession is that I am a writter. I have a cookbook of Danish recipes published, and I am currently planning a novel that I'd like to write.
