every october our city celebrates the annual Masskara festival. Masskara came from the following words, mass or many and kara for face that means mass of faces. masskara, is a yearly merry making where dancers wear colorful and beautiful mask and custom while dancing on the streets of Bacolod. people from neighboring cities and towns and foreigners visits our place to joined in the annual celebrations. i would remember that when i was a kid we go to the plaza to watch the street dance but i outgrow that already. during this time the streets of bacolod is jump pack with people from all walks of life.
do you have an annual feista in your city too? and what is it?

Yes, we have it is the "Malatarlak" Festival. It depicts the story on how our city which is Tarlac got it's name. It is a week long celebration with different events each day. There is also the street dancing contest where different schools compete and dress in costumes of our early settlers here and dance their way in the main thorough fair of our city and end up at the city plaza where the main contest is held. Though not as grand as your Masskara festival, many people from all walks of life come and watch this Malatarlak festival.

We have an Oktoberfest. It is a german festival; there are rides, crafts, food and tons of people. Our city does this as a source of revenue as it brings people from all over the state. We also have a county fair and a state fair which is basically the same as the Oktoberfest except that the fair has animals on display and is a little more in depth. The fair is in July and is usually very hot so we don't always go to that. The Oktoberfest is in October of course and we try to go to that because it's a bit cooler out. Both of them have an overabundance of people and some of them are quite rude so we don't stay long at either one. Our kids love the rides though but again, crowded and pretty expensive.

On October 23rd, we celebrate the Dannabug festival. Each year hoping the Dannabug can be reunited with her long lost father. It is a day of both sorrow and joy, because hope lives in us to rejoin Dannabug this year. There are celebrations and gifts, and food and music. Dannabug day is the best day of the year!

India is I think the only country with two and more annual festivals. think we simply love meery making. We have a festival of colors that is called Holi in March and then there is Dussehra or Durga Puja thats runs for almost tend ays and falls in the month of October. We have then festial of lights called Diwali thats just now round the corner on 27th October this year. we also have a small Ganapati festival mainly celebrated in western India that also runs for tend days.
just see this ink to learn about them all for us the festival spirit runs through out the year.

There are lots of anual festivals and celebration in the island i've lived. The biggest one is silence day which fall around march-april. The whole island will be kept in maximum silence. We are not allowed to go out of our premises and all activities are shut for the day. Even the airport is closed and only minimum ligy allowed at night.
A day before there will be a carnaval all around the street and everybody is going out to watch and celebrate.
I love the silence day, this is a very unique festivals that no other place have. Only in bali we celebrate festivals in silence and on this day the air is so fresh because there are no cars and no other pollution from the airplane, indutrial etc.. It is just silence and you can evaluate your own life to get a better life tomorrow...

Your festival sounds like a lot of fun - and so much color to see as well. I think it would be fun to dance in the streets wearing masks. My little town has several fun things they do. This weekend they are having the Sea Fair, right on shore. I'm sad to say I can't go - can't afford it right now. But they also have Oysterfest, and the Hummingbird Festival too each year. We get alot of tourists here, so they always seem to have something going on to draw in the crowds.

well, we use to have a street gathering every year...all the neighbors gather in one house few months before the celebration to collect money and think on how wonderfully the celebration should be... so, we use to build tents outside the houses and make the celebration from the afternoon till late in the evening...
well, I come from an Islamic background..so, the neighbors are all muslims..so, we use to celebrate the fasting month together...

The most popular and awaited annual festival of my city is GANESH CHATURTHI. It is celebrated for lord Ganesha. People of the city bring the idols of the diety and keep it and worship it for the next ten days and tenth day they take the idol and immerse it into the water. During these ten days people make a sweet called MODAK for the diety and assume that he likes it and people dance and make wishes to idol for themselves.

Yep! I'm afraid that my home town does have an annual festival.
It's called the http://www.barbecuefestival.com/ - and that is pork BBQ.
I haven't been to it in many years. After trying a beef brisket,
this pork BBQ doesn't suit me at all.
I'm not one to like crowds and all those stands of trinkets that
people sell there either.
But, in our town all of the furniture factories have closed down so
this will bring a little revenue in, I hope.

My city does have an annual festival. It's called the Heart Of Texas Fair & Rodeo. It's really cool... well, atleast it used to be. The fair has rides, drinks, food, games, and music. The rodeo is well... a rodeo. Some nights are free, but on the last night of the fair, it costs to get into to see the rodeo. So, you pay $10 to get into the fair, $5 for parking, and $15 or more to get into the rodeo on the last night. To me, it doesn't seem worth it. If I had the chance, I would make my own festival and everything (except food, drinks, rides and games) would be free. It would be free to get in. I can see where they would want to charge you though...
